Dylan just shook her head. “Varietyhasn’t even announced that yet.”
“As I said, clairvoyant,” Ramona said.
“Speaking of,” April said, clearing her throat and tapping on her phone.
“Oh god, no, please,” Ramona said, pressing her face into Dylan’s bare back.
“This week in Libra land…” April started, but then Ramona snagged her phone before she could continue. “Hey!”
“What we really need is some Scorpio action,” Ramona said, scrolling through Madame Andromeda’s page to Scorpio’s horoscope.
“I think not,” April said, trying to grab the phone back.
Ramona held it out of her reach, eyeing her suspiciously. “You already read it.”
“I did not.”
“You read it, and you don’t like what it says,” Ramona said.
“Lies!” April said, still waving her hand around for the phone.
Dylan just laughed at them and sipped her drink.
“Ahem,” Ramona said, holding the phone high into the air and squinting at the text. “As a Scorpio, you crave mystery and intrigue and magic, but that often leaves you feeling like no one can quite understand you. Keep in mind that what we need most in life is often the last thing we can imagine wanting. To truly be happy, we must sometimes step outside of the proverbial box.”
Ramona lifted her brows at her best friend. “That sounds like you need to take some risks, April Evans.”
April stood up and grabbed her phone from Ramona, huffing as she stalked off toward the house.
“I love you!” Ramona called after her, giggling.
April just flipped her off.
“I really need to hear this ex-fiancée story,” Dylan said.
Ramona wrapped her arms tighter around Dylan. “I’ll leave it to April tell you that grisly tale of woe.”
“I’m intrigued.”
“Oh, it’s intriguing all right.”
“I take it she and Leigh aren’t MFEO?”
“Leigh’s a player,” Ramona said. “And no, Leigh is back in Chicago.”
Dylan laughed and Ramona just grinned, held her tighter. The water rippled under the sun, and Ramona let out a sigh of contentment so long and happy, Dylan chuckled and kissed her neck. Ramona lifted her chin for a real kiss.
“I’m glad you came along to shift my perspective and deepen my understanding of my life’s purpose,” Ramona said against her mouth.
Dylan laughed. “Um, what?”
Ramona smiled. “The day I learned you were coming back to Clover Lake, that was my horoscope.Be prepared for challenges and opportunities that could shift your perspective and deepen your understanding of your life’s purpose.”
“So I was a challenge, huh?”
“A beautiful”—kiss—“life-changing challenge.”
Dylan grinned, then stood and held out her hand to Ramona. Ramona took it, waiting as Dylan fiddled with her phone. A second later, a song burbled out of the tiny speaker, tinny and quiet, but perfect at the same time.
