“Emma,” I start, but she looks right through me, like I’m not even there. “Em?”
“Audrey!” Janet calls out.
“Emma,” I try again, but her head drops to stare at the ground.
I give up, moving over to Janet, who slides an arm around my shoulders. “Audrey, can you do a floor routine?” she whispers.
Glancing back at Emma and then over to Dani and Chelsea’s desperate faces, I swallow down the panic and nod. I can. For my team, right now, to somehow salvage this day—this day, which was supposed to be a coronation but is rapidly spiraling into disaster.
“I … I don’t know if it’ll be enough.”
Enough for bronze. Enough for any medal. We were supposed to win gold, and now …
