I’m last. Last up on floor. Not last place, thank God, but last in line as we queue up for the march to the final rotation. Dani reaches back, and I grab her hand, squeezing. We’re in this together, no matter what.
I’mactuallyranked second. Second and we’re headed to floor. If I can hold my ground, though, not make any major mistakes, maybe a medal is within reach here. The medal that I forfeited to Dani and Emma and even, briefly, Sierra, earlier this year. The medal I thought was impossible.
Dani and I are in the same corner of the floor for warm-ups. She turns to me and holds out a fist. “We’ve got this. You and me. One more time.”
