We need to get Samara gone,Jax urges.

“I’ll be right back. I need to go check on something,” Knox says, thumbing over his shoulder.

“What could be more important than filling me in on how you had her and then lost her?”

“You’re right. It can wait.”I hope.

“Please sit,” I encourage. Her moving around the room is making me anxious.

And there. That’s when I see it.

Them.

Everlee’s panties.

They’re off to the side of the room near the other bookcase. How in the fuck did they get over there? Did they grow wings and fly?

Everlee’s panties. By the bookcase. Your ten o’clock.

Fucking hell,Jax groans.

You fucked her?Knox asks.

No.

Is that really the most important thing to be focused on right now?Jax scolds, then moves across the room towards the panties.

Samara moves to the bench by the window and flips over the book. “Reading about the true fae?”

“Yes,” Knox answers. “I’m trying to learn about them so we can track her.”

Samara tilts her head up, studying all of us. “So tell me again that she’s not hiding here somewhere.”

Taking a deep breath, I explain what happened at the restaurant with Jordan and his band of dreary men, then add… “And as we were leaving, she used that light ball on us. Knocked us out and when we came to, she was gone.”

“Gone?”

I don’t hear anything anymore,Jax says, worry thick in his voice.

“We tracked her all around town for hours, then came back here and figured we could learn as much about her as possible.”

“I see.”

“Have your other scouts found any trace of her?”

“No. It’s like she just completely vanished, which makes me wonder if someone found her and is hiding her for their own selfish reasons.”

“They’d have to be pretty stupid to do that.”

“They would have to beverystupid.”

She stares at us for a minute, then sets the book back down and continues walking around the rest of the room. By the time she gets to Jax, he has his foot planted firmly on Everlee’s underwear and tucked out of view.

She stands by the door to the library. “Tell Emmett I hate I missed him.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to stay for dinner? I’m sure he’s preparing something amazing.”

She smiles, but it doesn’t reach her eyes.
