“She’s doing this for me.”

And to try to score points with me. I know her game and it won’t work. I want her out of here. When I look at her, my blood boils. “I’ll tell you what. While I’m out today, I’ll go buy some cookies and give her one, since she’s being so… thoughtful.”

“You’re an ass, you know that,” she fires.

“So I’ve heard,” I call over my shoulder without turning to look at her.

“It’s fine though. I’ve dealt with worse.”

“Doubt it.”

“Harder they are, bigger the crack.”

Knox laughs, no doubt thinking of something childish.

“I’m out.” Needing to get away from her, I push back from the counter. “I need to run some errands. Care to go with E?”

“Yea.”

I ignore the quiet sigh from Everlee. She doesn’t need to try to break Emmett’s hunger for her. She won’t be here long enough to see it happen.

“Let’s go.” I wave over my shoulder.

“Are you going to be here later, Ev?” Emmett asks.

She hesitates a moment, looking at me before answering. “I think so.”

“Yes. She will be. She hasn’t come into her powers yet.”

“Always taking in the strays, Cal.”

“He took you in,” she snaps back.

“Oh, shit!” Knox says, eyes wide, jumping up and down.

Before I can stop myself, I’m standing in front of her again, chest pressed to hers with my hand wrapped around her throat and her eyes glued to mine.

“You don’t scare me.”

“I should.”

“Try harder,” she grinds out. “You seem to be all bark and no bite.”

“I bite,Ev. But you’ll never feel it.”

Her eyes dilate and her lips part.

Damn it. She likes that. It turns her on. Of course she would be into that.

Irritated, I drop her from my grip and she falls to the ground and grabs her throat. She snaps her teeth before she sits back down.

Fucking hell. “Let’s go.” I kick the chair under the bar and walk towards the back door.

Emmett is there a second later, licking the remaining blood from his bag off his lips. “You want to fuck her.”

“No. I don’t.”

“You do,” he says, smiling.
