“Is he alive?”

“Does it matter? You’re going to come in anyway.”

She looks behind me and when I turn, three vampires and a Dullahan step out of the shadows. “Friends of yours? Or fae, you’ve tricked and manipulated into doing your dirty work?”

“So mouthy. Perhaps we can fix that when I cut your tongue out. Do you know how much true fae tongue goes for in the underground? More than a leg, which is surprising. I guess it’s not really all about the size,” she jeers. “And speaking of size, Jax.” Her eyes grow wide. “Wow. I can see why you’d want him back.”

A vampire grabs my arm and shoves me forward, igniting the fury within. My body flushes and I feel the blue flame flowing through to my hands. “Touch me again and I will be the last thing you see before a true fae gives you your true death, fucker.”

His hands retreat into the air and he takes two steps back along with the others.

“Oh, stop being pussies. She’s a newborn fae. She doesn’t even know how to use her powers.”

“Do you want to try me?” I clap the air between my hands and a ball forms.

Samara takes a step back into the door.

“Now who’s the pussy?”

A smirk curls on her lips, and her back straightens. “Do what you want. Without me, you’ll never be able to get to Jax, and he will die. Is that your wish?”

My eyes lock on hers, but I don’t dare say a word. Of all the research I’ve done, you don’t speak about a wish unless you’re sure you want it cast. She’s a vindictive, deceiving bitch who will use any means necessary to win.

She laughs. “I guess reading all those books in Callum’s library served you well.”

“Guess so.”

“Now, enough with all of this posturing. Let’s get you inside to your beloved Jax. I’m sure he’sdyingto see you.” She watches me for a second, and when I don’t move, she continues, “Perhaps it will be easier like this.” She tosses her hand in the air and, in a swirl of purple mist, she turns into Jax. “Hey baby.”

It takes a minute for my brain to catch up with my eyes. When I see him standing there, a flutter tingles in my stomach, then I remember it’s not him. It’s her and the rage and hate return. I need to find Jax and figure out how to make a trade that she will agree to. The guys will never be safe as long as I’m around them. Last night, we put together a plan, but it had holes in it. Namely, they were going to be here. She would use me against them, and them against me.

No.

She wants me, so me she’ll get.

“Let’s go. Let’s figure out a trade.”

Each step I take feels like more and more weights are being added around my ankles.

CALLUM - CATCHING UP

BUZZ!

BUZZ!

Who is at the door this early in the morning?

I roll over in bed and immediately realize Everlee’s gone.

“Shit! Wake up! Ev is gone!”

Within seconds, Knox and Emmett are rolling out of the bed.

BUZZ!

CRASH!

“What the fuck? Are we under attack?” Emmett asks.
