“You two,” she points at Jax and me. “I can’t handle the glances and the heat radiating between you two.”

“Liz,” I scold.

“What? I can’t help it. I’m an empath. I can’t handle you two being horny around me. Hell, all of you. It makes me feel… things.” She shivers her shoulders.

Jax rolls his eyes. “Why is she still here?”“Because she’s my best friend and my sister.” I defend, then add. “Unfortunately, sometimes.”

She grabs her chest, then bats her hand softly at me. “I don’t do well in quiet or serious situations. It’s like I’m allergic and shit just comes out of my mouth. I have no filter.”

“You don’t say?”

“Why are you in such a pissy mood?” Knox jumps in.

Jax presses off the wall and steps towards Knox, who falters a bit in his step, but holds his ground.

“Let’s get back to business. I can’t stay gone long,” Lizzy says, attempting to cool the room. While she has an uncanny ability to say the most inappropriate shit all the time, she can also read a room. Usually when she does stupid shit, it’s because she’s testing her own theories that are percolating in her mind. She’s always been the action-reaction kind of thinker. Why waste time thinking through things? Just try and watch, then move on. Efficient, but it’s also gotten her into trouble on several occasions.

“Mist? Samara?” I ask, giving our conversation a direction.

Callum continues, “The theory is that Morreux will feed off her darkness, weakening her enough so that we may capture her and bind her and Morreux to a lamp or something else and then bury it where no one can find it.”

“Well, that seems to be the only theory we have right now,” Lizzy says, pushing away from the bar. “I need to get back. I will do some digging and see if I can find anything about the book or Morreux. Maybe Tony has someone he trusts at Helsgard that will help with either. They are interested in Everlee.”

“Do they want to give her some protection?” Jax scoffs. “Or maybe handle Samara for us?”

“They try not to interfere until something has happened.”

“What the fuck kind of sense does that make? Wait until Samara kidnaps her or kills her… then they will do something?” Jax yells.

“Look. I didn’t say I agree with it, but they can’t do anything right now. Their hands are tied, plus Samara is powerful. Only thing equal in power is… her.” She points at me.

Being silly, I throw my hands out to the side with jazz hands.

“Whatever!” Jax sneers, then walks upstairs.

“So broody.” Lizzy wiggles her fingers and I just cast her a look. She looks back at Callum. “Look, Tony and I want to help. While Helsgard won’t step in yet, they sent Tony, and he’s reporting back. He’s trying to get a few guards here, but they’re being difficult. I’m going to keep looking into a few things and if you find out anything, I’m but a mere incantation away. Or a phone call for the more modern folk in the room.” She slides a business card across the counter.

“Betty’s Bitchin’ Rides?” Callum asks, confused.

“No. Flip it over. That was the only paper I had. Although if you ever need a ride, Betty is your girl. A little wild child, but she’ll be discreet.”

“Thanks,” Callum says slowly.

“Anytime! Take care of my girl. In all the ways that matter.” She puts her finger through a hole she makes with her other hand.

“Fuck Lizzy. Go!” I slap her arm.

Captain Inappropriate.

She looks at the bowl of gummy bears on the counter and motions to take some. “These aren’t sugar free, are they?”

“No,” Callum answers, confused.

“Whew! Last time I had some sugar free ones, they lit my ass up. I’ve never shit so much in my life. It was like a small dragon had crawled up my ass and breathed fire out of it. Brutal. Definitely don’t recommend.”

Callum looks between Knox and me, then back to Lizzy, completely speechless.

Without missing a beat, she shrugs then continues as if she didn’t just have the largest over share of the century, “I shall shed this skin and go forth into that good day!” She drops the blanket at the same time she shifts into a cat and saunters across the room to the back door. Do I see an extra swish in her step? Absolutely. The sass is nearly dripping out of her.
