“Very sweet, but no. It would take you too long.”
“I’m going to need some more cans versus all these cants. Positivity Knoxxy baby.”
“I am positive I’m fucked.”
“Thank you very much,” I say, blowing on my fingernails. “Or should I say fuck you very much?” He cuts his eyes at me. “Sorry. You just gave me two or three orgasms, and I use sarcasm and jokes to help me through awkward moments.”
He runs his fingers through his hair, turning in a circle, letting out a sigh of frustration.
“Swim.”
“What?”
“You’re a SEAL. Get in the water and swim.”
He looks at the water and then at the house in the distance. “That’s a long way.”
“Negative Nancy, let’s get off the pity party bus and find a solution, because unless you want me finding a coconut laying on the ground and rigging up some sort of coconut bottom for you, then we need to get moving. We’re burning daylight.”
“Ok.”
“Ok?” My head jerks in surprise.
“Fine. We will start walking, but as soon as I get a hint of a person getting close, I will jump into the water and swim.”
“Ok. Let’s go, Cab.”
“Cab?”
“Cock ‘n balls.”
“For fuck’s sake Ev.”
“What?” I loop my arm in his and we start walking home. “When you get in the water, should I still pace you on the beach?”
“You could swim with me.”
“Yea, fuck that. I can swim, but in the ocean. No. I’ll only slow us down. Plus, I didn’t lose my bathing suit.”
“Keep it up, Ali. We have an entire week together.”
“We always have an entire week together. We have every day together.”
“Shut up.” He smacks my ass, and we keep walking.
EVERLEE - CAT OR DRAGON?
Aboutfiveminutesintoour walk, a family of four is packing up their belongings, so Knox tears off towards the ocean. He starts swimming, which, dammit if it isn’t one of the sexiest things I’ve seen. He tries to stay on top of the water, but his ass cheeks keep poking up a little whenever the waves get low. He has a good speed at first, but fifteen minutes in and I can tell he’s getting tired. Unfortunately, we’re in a more populated area, so he has no other option but to stay in the water.
When we get closer to the house, I run ahead and grab a towel off the back deck, then run back to the ocean, meeting him a few houses over. He must have seen me coming because he’s sitting in a shallower area, catching his breath when I get to him.
The back of my neck prickles, and I turn to find Beckett, Lizzy, and Jax on the boardwalk between the beach and the house, watching us.
“We’ve got lurkers,” I say, handing him the towel as he steps out of the water.
“Great. Let’s go get the lashings. I mean, at least the group will have something to ride me about for the rest of the week.”
Flinging myself at him, I wrap my arms around his neck and give him a kiss. He kisses me back, but I know he’s tired. The usual light has drained from his eyes.
