“Fine.”

“Fine?” Knox chirps, stepping closer to me.

“Fine, but-”

“Fucking buts!” Knox cries.

I reach out for him and bring him into me, placing his hand on my bare ass.

“So dirty, but I love it. But.” He laughs at himself.

“It wasn’t even a pun. Or a joke. You just said but, twice, but not even the right but.”

“You just said but three times.”

Jax shakes his head. “Seriously, shut the fuck up.”

Knox’s eyebrows rise on his forehead as his lips twist.

“My condition is that I don’t get paid. Any money I would get goes back towards the loan to help pay for my portion of it. Once it’s paid off, then I will accept a paycheck.”

Without hesitation, Callum agrees, and then I see it on his face. This was going to happen all along. He had already played out all the moves, like a chessboard. I just got checkmated.

I narrow my eyes at him, and he gives me a sly smile back. I mouth ‘you ass’, at the same time Knox pulls me up into his arms, jumping up and down.

“You may want to get dressed, unless you want to meet our lawyers like that?” Emmett reminds.

“Shit. Right. Put me down, Knox,” I say, quickly patting his chest.

Five minutes later, I’m racing down the stairs in a knee length green and white polka-dotted dress with a pair of flats on and my hair in a low messy bun just as the lawyers are walking into the kitchen. The man looks to be in his late thirties, with short and spiky light brown hair, a chiseled jawline, and a broad chest that fills his designer suit perfectly. He screams wealth, power, and confidence. Goddamn. Beside him is a younger woman with long brown hair pulled back into a low ponytail, wearing a knee length white and black pencil skirt with a dark blue silk blouse. She carries herself nicely, back straight, but I can see she feels slightly uncomfortable, even if she doesn’t know it.

“Preston, Eliza, this is Everlee. Everlee, this is Preston and Eliza, part of our team.”

“Nice to meet you.” I slide to a reserved stop beside Knox, clasping my hands behind my back. I don’t know why I just got nervous suddenly.

Because this is a big fucking deal. You’re going into business with your men. You will be on a legally binding document with them, tying all of you together, my subconscious chimes in.

Shit. She’s right. That’s stupid. She’s always right because she’s me.

Fuck. Focus Everlee.

Knox’s hand slips around my back and his fingers slip into mine. Nothing sexual, just encouraging.

He gives me a small smile and a wink, and it calms me almost instantly.

“Nice to meet you as well.” Eliza smiles.

“Should we begin? This should be fairly quick, assuming all things are in order?” Preston asks.

Callum looks at me, waiting a beat, giving me the chance to back out, I realize, before nodding. “Yes. We’re all in agreement.”

“Excellent. We will get your signatures here, and then we’ll head to Allure to get Sammie’s. It feels like yesterday I was just helping on the documents for the sale to Sammie.”

“And now you’re the one owning it.” Callum nods.

“We can handle business here at this table. The office will be a little too cramped.”

“Perfect,” Eliza and Preston echo in unison.
