“She’s great. I love the energy and the fact she is… normal.”
Everlee clenches her stomach and bends over in laughter. “Are you… you … are you fucking with me? Normal,” she continues to laugh.
“Well, like with us. Not pretentious or judgmental.”
“Ok. I will take all of those, but I vehemently reject normal.”
“Vehemently?” I close the gap between us and wrap my arms around her. I absolutely love touching her and holding her in my arms. It’s like I’m addicted to her. “Does Tony know?”
“I don’t think he’s expressly been told, but I assume he has an idea. Probably should have said something to him before today. Could be interesting.”
“What?” Jax walks downstairs. “Ooh an Everlee sandwich. My favorite kind to eat.” He presses up behind her and wraps his arms around me, squishing her between us.
“You boys and your filthy words and sexiness!”
“You love our filthy mouths,” Jax retorts.
“I do.” Her hand slides up between us and she grabs my chin and gives me a kiss, then turns around and gives Jax a kiss before ducking under our arms.
“Want me to take anything up?”
“No. I need to finish a couple of things and then we’ll bring it up,” I say turning away from the now awkward embrace with Jax.
She blows a kiss, then disappears.
“What’s up?” I ask Jax, who clearly has something on his mind.
“Nothing.” He takes a seat at the bar and watches me continue to cook and prepare the side dishes. “I had to get away from Lizzy because I can only take her in small doses. She needs to burn off some of her excitement and energy before I can go back up.”
Pouring the beans into a serving dish, I laugh, because I know what he’s talking about, but that’s one of the things I like about her. Unafraid to bring her entire self to any environment. It’s probably liberating. “Is that all? I noticed you were home early on Friday and the kitchen was in a disarray.”
“Disarray? It was spotless.” He folds up the towel on the counter, his mind clearly somewhere else.
“Maybe disarray is a bit much, but there were things out of place. Not to mention the-” he points to his neck, “on each of you. And… you’ve seemed more relaxed. Did you tell her?”
“Tell her what?”
“How you feel?”
He shakes his head and starts looking around the room. His tell-tell sign he really doesn’t want to talk about it. Almost like he’s an animal terrified of being locked in a cage. So I change the topic. “I saw the lawyers brought by some paperwork this afternoon. Have you looked at it?”
“No, but Callum said it’s a go. There are a couple of other things that were called out, but they’re minor. He wants to review with us tomorrow around two, then have the lawyers over at three.”
“Does Everlee know?”
He looks at me, then up the stairs. “No.”
“Are we going to tell her tomorrow at two?”
“I guess we have to because lawyers will want her signature, too.”
“Do you think Callum talked to Sammie after the meeting and requested she make it part of the deal?”
“To make her an equal owner? Possibly, probably. He knew Everlee wouldn’t go for it since we already tried once, but coming from someone else.” Jax laughs. “Seems like something he would do.”
“Do you have a problem with it?”
“Not at all. As far as I see it, she’s ours. We can’t marry her to make it official, but…”
