I stopped walking down the hall and turned back towards him and whispered. “What did you think was going to happen when you look at me like you do all the time and then follow me to the bathroom?”
“I wasn’t trying to fuck in it, if that’s what you think. I respect you more than that.”
“Are you saying I don’t respect myself?”
“No. I’m not saying that at all.”
“Then what?”
He shook his head. “You deserve more than what I can give you.”
I rolled my eyes, then poked my finger in his chest. “That’s fucking bullshit and you know it.”
I turned to walk back to the table.
Lizzy watched me walk up and her eyes grew wide.
I sat down and took a deep breath. I would not let him ruin this fantastic evening.
“You want to talk about it?” She asked.
“Not yet.”
She nodded. “This one is probably my favorite. It’s so cheesy.”
I smiled, thankful she knew me so well. She knew when to press and when to just let me be. I took a bite of the sandwich. “This one is good and almost as cheesy as you.”
“Everlee’s got jokes.”
The rest of dinner passed with jokes and us talking about Lizzy’s future wedding. It was a pleasant distraction from Callum. I had to fight the urge to look at the second balcony and failed a few times. Fortunately, those times he wasn’t looking, but I could tell he was agitated.
We took the last bite of dessert and both slumped back in our seats. A moment later, shadows descended on the table and we looked up to find Emmett, Jax, Knox and Callum standing around us. Most of the restaurant had cleared out, so it was just us and the remaining staff.
“Well, how was it?” Emmett asked, beaming.
“It was phenomenal. Fantastic.” Lizzy sighed.
“It was absolutely outstanding. I didn’t know you were the owner.”
Emmett smiled. “It was my passion project, and these boys helped me get it off the ground.”
“Well, thank God they did, because wow.”
Knox stepped forward. “He’s been talking about it all day. He wouldn’t shut up.”
“Well, really… it was amazing. Words can’t describe. And you really didn’t need to do this.”
“It was nothing, love.” Emmett said. “The look on your face when you eat. If I could frame it and look at it every day. That is what brings me joy… and-”
“Don’t say it.”
He smiled. “Is there anything else you want? Need?”
“Gosh no.” Maybe a dick. Anyone’s dick at this point.
“Can I get a picture?” Lizzy blurted. “With all of us?”
“Yea. Of course.” Emmett and Knox answered at the same time.
