But Haley fit with Lulu.

I force myself to roll away from Haley and onto my back. I can see the stars through the clear top of the tent. What a beautiful setting for our last night together.

The thought stings, but I say it over and over until it feels less painful.

CHAPTERTWENTY-ONE

Haley

We make good time driving through Montana, and we arrive in Wilcox well before sunset.

As we pull into the ranch and drive up to the house, I gasp.

“It really feels like a wedding is about to happen in two days, doesn’t it?”

“Sure does.”

The white tent is already up on the far lawn, and vendors are busy setting up flowers and tables.

“Daddy!” Lulu comes running toward the truck the second Liam parks in front of the main house.

Liam scoops her up in his arms and swings her around.

I don’t realize how wide I’m smiling until Winter appears next to me.

“They have such an incredible bond,” she says.

I nod. “They do.”

She gives me a hug and then drags me away from Liam and Lulu. “From social media, it looked like you two had an interesting trip,” she whispers.

I smile. “I’m a little freaked out that all of you got to follow our journey online.”

“I’m pretty sure we didn’t see the best parts.”

We both laugh.

“Are your parents already in town?” I ask her. “Your wedding is right around the corner.”

“They are. And speaking of my wedding, I want to ask you a favor,” Winter says. “My cousin broke her foot and can’t make it. She was supposed to be a bridesmaid.”

“Oh, I’m so sorry.”

“I feel bad for her. She was so excited to come. So now we need to fill her spot.” Winter puts her hands together in a prayer pose. “Will you do it?”

I stare at her. “Be your bridesmaid?”

“One of them. Like I told you, my mom’s in charge of the wedding, and she went big. No shock there if you knew her.”

“Um…” Liam’s in the wedding. We’ll be broken up by then. We’ll be broken up in about five minutes to be exact, as soon as we say goodbye.

I look at Winter. The sparkle in her eyes tells me she knows exactly what she’s doing as usual.

But what am I supposed to say other than…

“Yes.” I hug her. “Of course.”

“That’s so amazing! Thank you so much.”
