“That sounds like a lot to handle as a kid,” I tell her.
“It wasn’t simple, that’s the truth,” she agrees as we walk across the parking lot of the bar and onto Wild Ranch. “But Logan was always there for me. I’m the luckiest girl in the world—I met my soulmate as a little girl.”
“That sounds like a fairytale,” I say.
She laughs lightly. “It does. Which is ironic because Logan and I are the furthest from a fairytale as you can imagine. If we had the time, I’d tell you the whole story. But look! We’re here.”
We’ve reached the outside of a couple of large fields. Horses are milling around one field and cows in the other.
And I’m sweating like a pig.
“I’ll just bring Kendall into the house and see you in a few,” Macey says as we reach Liam and Logan.
“I didn’t take glistening skin into account for this video,” I admit to Liam as Macey and Logan disappear inside the main house with their baby.
He wipes his forehead. “No kidding. Dang, it’s hot.”
I sweep my hair into a bun on the top of my head and take off my glasses so I can dab at my sweaty face with a tissue I have in my purse.
“Your eyes are stunning.”
Liam’s staring at me.
“Um…thanks?” I laugh. “Maybe it’s my shiny skin that’s highlighting the blue.”
He touches my cheek lightly with his thumb. “Not a chance. You’re always gorgeous.”
I fight the urge to touch him…anywhere and everywhere.
He helps me out by breaking the sexual tension with a grin. “Sweaty or not.”
“Ha-ha.” I stick out my tongue at him just as his phone pings.
“It’s Hunter,” he says. “Lulu wants to say hi. Be right back.”
He steps away to make the call just as Macey and Logan return from the house. Not a minute later, four cowboys, hats and boots and all, approach.
“These are my older brothers,” Logan says. “Ty, Jesse, and Reid. And this guy here is my cousin Blake.”
All four guys are friendly and welcoming. Blake is an incorrigible flirt, and so is Reid.
“You going to pick your favorite cowboy to star in your video?” Reid asks me with a smile.
“Why don’t all five of you, Logan included, do some simple daily tasks, and I’ll stroll around and film?” I suggest. “I may ask you a few questions so the audience can feel like they’re a part of ranch life. I’ll be on the video most of the time, but you’ll all get face time if you want it.”
“Reid definitely wants it,” Blake says clearly to fuck with Reid, who glares.
I call Ashley to tell her I’m ready, and then I set up my iPad with the extender I use for these occasions. Logan helps me attach it to one of the fences for any panoramic views I might need. I instruct the guys on a few things such as not blocking the camera if it’s propped, and I wait as they all step into the horse pasture and begin feeding the horses.
Before I go live, I glance back toward the driveway where Liam’s still on the phone with Lulu. I wave to let him know I’m starting, and then it’s showtime.
I press record, and the butterflies in my stomach immediately start soaring.
Every damn time.
No matter how often I do these live feeds for my job—I’m an introvert at heart, and the knowledge that hundreds—or gulp, thousands—of people will see me never fails to scare the crap out of me.
“Hello everyone!” I smile into my phone’s camera. “It’s a beautiful hot day in Darcy, Texas, where I am today on Wild Ranch. How about you all? What are you up to today?”
