Heistreating us to this amazing accommodation, so I want him to be satisfied with his sleeping area.

He nods. “Looks great.”

I lean against the doorframe and study him.

His muscular frame is intimidating with those big biceps and shoulders. Yet, something about him makes me feel safe and protected.

The other thing though, that of course I’ve never been able to deny, is how attracted I am to him.

And as we stand three feet away from one another in a hotel bedroom, my hormones feel wildly out of control. I have to clench my toes inside my boots to stop myself from hurling my wanton body at him.

I’m the girl who never loses herself in a guy.

I always stay in control.

But something about Liam makes me feel like Iwantto lose control.

His green eyes glitter with some kind of emotion as he watches me.

Before I can determine what it is, he blinks, and it’s gone.

And I jump backward. “Um, I’m curious about the bathroom.”

God, that sounded dumb.

I turn and head for the expansive bathroom. “God, I would love to soak in that tub.”

“You can,” Liam says from behind me. “I can shower in the downstairs bathroom.”

“Are you sure?”

“Of course. But first, I have something for you.”

“You do?”

He’s already headed for the stairs. “Come on down and see.”

“Okay. I’m going to use the bathroom first, and then I’ll be down.”

Five minutes later, I round the stairs to the living area.

Sitting on the kitchen counter is a chocolate cake with lit candles. Next to the cake are two glasses plus a bottle of champagne.

“What the…”

I stumble on the bottom step as I stare across the room at Liam.

“Happy birthday, Haley.” He tilts his head in the direction of the cake. “Do you want to make a wish?”

After the roller coaster of a day that I’ve had, my emotions are still close to the surface.

My eyes fill with tears, and I wipe them away.

“Sorry. This is a lovely gesture. Thank you so much.” I walk over to the cake and blow out the three candles. “Shit. I forgot to make a wish. Oh well.”

Liam reaches over the counter and grabs the matches. “Take two.”

Before I can protest, he lights the candles for a second time.
