Two feral growls ring loud in the quiet night.
“Tell me you’re smelling what I’m smelling?” Sloane’s voice rasps.
“He’s ours,” Aiden whispers, pupils blown wide.
“Both of them. Ours,” Sloane growls. “Things just got a whole lot better.”
“No,” I whimper, shaking my head. “No.”
“Emmett, put the gun down.” Aiden goes to take a step towards me.
“Stop!” my voice cracks. “Stop.”
“It’s okay. Everything is going to be okay. Let’s go get Lexi, yeah?”
“Stop!” I shout again, ringing in my ears, making me disoriented. It’s too much, their smells, the spinning world, trying to piece everything together.
My body sways, the gun dropping from my hand and clattering to the ground. My vision goes fuzzy, and I feel myself start to fall.
“Emmett!” Lexi's panicked voice screams from somewhere in the distance, but I’m too far gone to speak.
“I got you.” Aiden’s voice is close, in my ear as he catches me before I hit the ground. Then... everything goes black.
Chapter 15
Aiden
“What the fuck is going on?!” Lexi demands, her eyes wild with fear and anger.
My heart threatens to break free of my chest as I hold Emmett in my arms. Never would I have guessed that coming to Widows Peak would lead to not only one scent-matched Omega, but two.
“Hey there, Kitten.” Sloane steps in front of her. “Breathe. Everything is okay. He just got overwhelmed and passed out.”
“Overwhelmed with what?” she demands, looking frantic. “Emmett, baby.” Her voice breaks on his name as she cups his cheek. “What happened?” she snaps, her blue eyes blazing with anger.
“He came around the corner and demanded to know what we wanted with you. We tried to get him to agree to go get you so we could talk, but he pulled a gun on us.”
“He did?” Lexi looks at Emmett, then back up to me. “So what, you hit him or something?”
“No,” Sloane answers her. “No one touched him. Not until Aiden caught him before he hit the ground.”
“Why did he pass out then?” she demands.
I look up at Sloane, who actually looks a bit worried.
“I’m going to guess that finding out we’re his scent matches was too much for him to handle,” Sloane slowly answers.
Lexi gasps. “You’re his scent matches?”
“Looks like it. So, if you were worried about him leaving you because of us, no need to stress anymore.”
I glare at him.He really doesn’t know how to shut up, does he?
“Oh my god.” Lexi is shaking now, and I can smell the anxiety coming off her in waves.
“Lexi, sweetheart, what do you think about us taking him back to your place? He can rest, and when he wakes up, we can get everything out on the table.”
She stares at each of us for a moment before nodding. “Yeah. Uh, okay.” She pulls out her phone and calls someone. “Briar, I hate to do this, but can you fill in for me? Something’s come up.” She pauses for a moment. “Thank you so much.”
