I like Amy. She’s a nice woman and very good at her job. We’re lucky to have her here in Widows Peak.
But that doesn’t stop me from wanting to growl when her eyes drift over to scan Emmett.
It’s just now that I realize the fucker didn’t put his shirt back on, and he’s standing there in only a pair of low slung jeans with the top of his boxers peeking out, showing off a very tantalizing V just above it.
“Lexi needs to be seen by Dr. Herrera, please,” Emmett says, not paying any attention to the fact that Amy is checking him out.
I mean, I can’t blame her, he is just standing there looking like a snack.
“Uhhh.” Amy blinks a few times, bringing her attention back to me. “She’s with a patient right now.”
“Oh, would you look at that, she’s busy. That’s fine. We’ll try again tomorrow.” I spin on my heel to leave, but Emmett holds out his arms.
“We’ll wait, let her know we’re here, please," Emmett replies.
“Of course,” Amy says.
Emmett grips my shoulders and guides me towards the waiting room.
“Sit,” he instructs, nodding to the chair.
“You sure you’re not an Alpha?” I mutter. “Sure are bossy like one.”
He raises a brow, crossing his sinfully delicious, muscled arms over his chest.
“Lex,” he says in a warning tone.
“Em,” I say back, mimicking his pose.
He’s trying to be stern, but I can see his lip twitching at the side.
Leaning down, he brings his face just in front of mine.
I both hate and love being this close to him. His scent invades my nose again, and I have to hold back a moan.
“Sometimes I wonder, who’s the older one between the two of us when you start acting like a stubborn child.”
My heart races, my mind going blank. Normally, a comment like that would earn him an arm slap, and he’d laugh it off.
But the energy that crackles between us has shifted. I’m far more affected by this man than I should be.
I lick my lips, and his eyes follow the movement. They grow darker, his nostrils flaring. He steps back, clearing his throat, but not before I scent the spike of sweetness in his maple syrup scent.
“Could you just please sit and wait to see the doctor? I know you don’t care, but I do. And I’d feel like shit if I brought you home and something happened after I left.”
My shoulders drop, and any fight in me dissipates. I sit in the chair, deciding not to fight him on this anymore.
“Thank you.” He sits down next to me.
We’re quiet for a few minutes with only the music playing in the waiting room and the sound of hushed whispers around us.
“You couldn’t even stop to put a shirt on?” I question, breaking the silence.
“What?” Emmett frowns down at me.
“This.” I wave at his chest. “You're just walking around half naked.”
His lip twitches. “I’m pretty sure half the town has seen me without a shirt on by now.”
