What is wrong with me? I’m acting as if I’ve never been around a woman before. I have. Lots of women.Well, kind of. Okay, not really. Mostly men. Gross, ugly men.
She’s not gross or ugly.
I want her. But I don’t think Silva will let me have a chance with her.
“I’m sure we can find you something. What was your last job?”
I lick my lips. “Dancer. At a club.” There’s no judgment in her eyes.Thank fuck.
“If that's your thing, we do have nighttime performers. We can slip you in.”
“No.” I shake my head. “No.” The idea of getting up on stage again for anyone, for any reason, makes me want to puke.
“Okay. No dancing.” She nods. “We can find you something else.” Her smile is so sweet and caring that it makes my heart want to explode.
“We are looking for supervisors during the daytime hours here at the club.” She looks me over and bites her lip.Yes. Keep looking at me like that. Prove Silva wrong. Please.
“You’re tall, fit by the look of it. We have some construction jobs.”
“Where do you work?”Okay, stalker, chill the fuck out. Here I thought I might be walking into a crazy town, when really, I’m the crazy one.
“Here,” she laughs, amused with me. Hey, I’ll take it. “I serve, help my sister run the bar, and sometimes perform. I do other things around town too, but I mostly work here.”
“I want to work here.”
Silva snorts a laugh and shakes her head. “Teenage boys,” she mutters under her breath.
I shoot her another glare.
Lexi doesn’t seem to hear her. “Okay,” she laughs. “Well, we are in need of someone to work security. With the town growing and the club getting busy on the weekends, we need more bouncers.”
“I’ll take it.” I slap the bar top, grinning like an idiot. Not just because I’ll get to be around this pretty Omega, but because the idea of protecting Omegas is perfect.
The only person at my old job who ever showed an ounce of concern about our well-being and safety was one of the bouncers, Bruno. He never let anyone hurt us if he was around.
I want to be that for Lexi, or anyone else who comes into this club.
“Alright then.” She smiles, laughing softly. “You got the job. Now let’s get you to the inn.” She rounds the corner and looks me over. “Ah, do you need some new clothes?”
“Huh?” I look down and pause at the mustard stain. Fucking hell. Of course, I’d forget to change and look like a bum next to this goddess of an Omega.
She’s twenty-six, but she sure as fuck doesn’t look like it.
I could be a good man for her.
“No.” I laugh awkwardly. “I’m good. All my stuff is in my car. They’re having it towed.”
“Got it.” She nods. “We can take my car.”
She heads toward the exit.
“Might wanna slow your boat there, Romeo,” Silva says. “Not a chance in hell.”
“Not with an attitude like that,” I mutter. “One day, Silva. One day, I won’t be the silly young teenage boy.”
“You don’t even know her.” She narrows her eyes. “Don’t fuck with my sister, Emmett. You won’t like what happens if you do.”
“I might not know her, but I can tell a good soul when I see one. Even if she doesn’t give me the time of day in that kind of way, I’d still be the best damn friend she could ask for.”
