“Just for that, no sex for you either. No Emmett, no Aiden, no Sloane,” I pant out.
Sloane’s jaw hangs. “You can’t do that!” Sloane protests. “She can’t do that, right?” he asks, looking between Emmett andAiden. They both stay quiet.Smart men.Maybe I’ll let them touch me. Can’t knock me up with tongues and fingers.
“I’m sorry,” Sloane says. “So sorry. I’m stupid. So stupid. I’ll shut up.”
“Stop insulting yourself,” I cry as another contraction hits. “You’re not stupid. You just have bad timing. Dear god!” I scream. “Get this baby out of me!”
“We’re here.” Aiden pulls up in front of the emergency room entrance. He gets out and runs to the door.
“Come on, baby, let’s get you inside,” Emmett says.
Sloane and Emmett work together to get me out of the truck and into the wheelchair Aiden pushes out.
I’m scared and in pain. I can’t think straight. My head is a mess. Childbirth is not for the weak.
It’s a good thing I’m not weak. I can do this. I’vesurvived a hell of a lot; I can bring this baby into the world.
The nurse leads us to the maternity ward and gets me settled into a room.
I’m delirious with pain, begging for relief.
“I’m sorry, hun, but you’re too far along. This baby is ready to come now.”
“What?” I screech in pure panic. “No.No.” I shake my head. “I need something for the pain. I feel like I’m dying, please?”
“I’m sorry, but it will take too long for it to kick in, and the baby's head is right there. We need you to feel yourself push. It’ll only be a little while longer. She’s going to pop right out, and you will feel so much better.”
“We got you, Kitten.” Sloane takes my hand. “You’re going to be okay. We’re right here.”
“I can’t do it,” I sob, tears streaming down my cheeks as sweat coats my brow.
“Yes, you can.” Aiden takes my other hand. “Because you are Lexi. A motherfucking Widow. Slayer of demons. And themother to the amazing baby girl you’re about to bring into this world. A few more minutes of pain for a lifetime of love.”
“Okay.” I nod. “Okay.”
“I’m going to need you to push now, okay, Lexi?”
Nodding, I get my feet into position. I take a deep breath, and with everything in me, I push. The scream that rips through me hurts my throat. I push so hard I feel like my head is going to explode.
“That’s it. I can see her head.” Emmett stands at the foot of the bed, his face split into a massive smile. “You got this, Peaches. One more push!”
Taking a deep breath, I go again, sobbing and screaming, giving one last push.
I can feel the relief as she slides out of me. Sucking in a breath, I relax backward, my head spinning and feeling like I’m going to be sick.
“She’s here,” Emmett’s voice cracks.
My eyes open to see the nurse holding up the baby. “Congratulations. She’s perfect.”
“Oh my god,” Aiden gasps. “She’s beautiful."
“What the fuck is all over her?” Sloane gasps in horror. “Why is she covered ingoo?”
I burst out laughing. Maybe I’m a little delusional right now, but I laugh to the point I think I pee myself. But who knows what the hell is going on down there.
“You’re an asshole,” Aiden growls to Sloane.
“What?” Sloane asks. “She looks like a wrinkly raisin covered in goo.”
