Or, are they green flags? I mean, they said they only hurt people who deserve it. So, whoever that is must be a bad guy, right?
Sloane steps to the side, giving me a direct line of sight to the man strapped to a chair. I squint, trying to get a better view. He looks familiar. But where...Holy fuck.
Bile rises in my throat when it clicks. I know who that is.
“It’s him,” Emmett whispers, his face a mask of shock.
“What?”
He looks at me. “It’s him Lexi. The guy from my old job.”
For a moment, I think he’s talking about his boss. Then I remember what he told me about this one man who would come to the club. He was the cruelest of them all and did fucked up shit to Emmett. And because Emmett was ordered to, he had to take all of it without complaint.
Tears fill my eyes as I bring my gaze back to the man in the chair.
Out of all the people in the world to hurt my sweet, amazing Emmett, why did it have to be the same monster who hurt me?
“That’s Luke,” I tell him, not taking my eyes off him. “That's my old foster brother.”
Chapter 28
Sloane
Luke sits bound to a chair, face bloody, snot dripping down his nose. He’s been sobbing like a little bitch, begging for his life, for the past half hour.
“Please,” he pleads. “I’ll do anything. Anything you want.”
I crouch down in front of him, letting my arms dangle over my knees, cocking my head to the side. “You keep saying that, but the only thing I want is you dead,” I laugh, tapping the tip of the blade against his knee. “And we’re already going to be getting that, so there’s really no point in wasting your breath. It’s better to accept your fate now and just let it happen.”
“Fuck you!” he spits in my face.
I close my eyes, brows raised as I wipe his spit from my face. “That’s fucking rude. But why should I expect manners from the likes of you?” I give him a condescending laugh. “You’re a nobody, Luke. No one is going to miss you when you’re gone. You have no wife or kids, and your parents cut ties with you years ago after you racked up thousands of dollars of debt in their name. Your best bet would have been your brother, Brad. But do you wanna know a secret?” I lean in, whispering. “He’s going to die too.”
Luke’s eyes widen for a second before anger takes its place. He struggles against the restraints. I stand, laughing.
“I’ve read your rap sheet. So many DUI’s and sexual assault charges.” I tsked. “Do you think just because you’re an Alpha, it makes you some kind of god? You’re nothing, Luke. You never have been, never will be. Your life was a big waste. Honestly...” I give him a pitying look. “Your mom should have just swallowedyou and your brother. It would have made the world a much better place.”
He goes to scream, to spew more of his bullshit, but Aiden shoves a dirty rag into his mouth.
“He’s giving me a fucking headache,” he grunts. “Can we just get this over with so the clean-up crew can do their jobs and we can get back to our Omegas? I’m getting antsy being away from them.”
“About that.” I get to my feet. Turning around, I look up in the direction where my Omegas are hiding. I smelled them almost immediately when they arrived, not sure how Aiden hasn’t noticed yet. Might be the bloody nose he got when Luke elbowed him in the face during transport. “Kitten, Sugar tits, you can come out now.”
“You have got to be fucking kidding me,” Aiden growls when he sees the two Omegas poking their heads above the railing. “What are you doing here? Do you have any idea how dangerous this is?”
“I tried to get her to leave, but she wouldn’t listen,” Emmett blurts.
Lexi shoots him a scathing glare. “Really?”
“Sorry.” Emmett rubs the back of his head.
“How did you find us anyway?” Crossing my arms, I give them an amused look.
Lexi turns her attention to me. “I put a tracker on your truck. I have trust issues, okay? Sue me.”
I can’t help but chuckle. “Not gonna lie, your stalkerish ways are pretty hot, Kitten. Hey, Aiden, is your dick hard? You know, because you love stalking so much.”
“Fuck off,” Aiden mutters. “Lexi, Emmett. Get down here, please,” he grinds out.
