“I can not confirm or deny. Just know, this one.” I point to Aiden. “And his boyfriend are not an option.”

“Boyfriend?” His eyes widen. “Damn. Is he as good looking as him?”

“Denny,” I warn.

“Fine,” he pouts. “Keep all the sexy men to yourself. Lucky bitch.”

Aiden chuckles softly behind me. Okay, so I might be acting a bit like a possessive Omega, and I don’t feel the least bit bad about it.

Denny and Baxter are always looking for the right people to join their pack. They’re very open and accepting. Just not with my Alphas.

MyAlphas. When did I start seeing them as mine?

They’re your scent matches, Lexi. If that isn’t enough to put a claim on them, I don’t know what else would be.

“Now, be a doll and let me know what new books you have in.”

His face lights up. “Girl, we have so much good stuff.”

Denny goes on to tell me about a book with an Omega who goes to a school to find her pack before her first heat. But she doesn’t want just any pack; she’s holding out for her scent match. But then she falls hard for her Beta bodyguard and is fine with just being with him. Only, she bumps into her scent match at the library. Turns out her pack is a group of guys who are always overlooked because they don’t look like what society thinks Alphas should be.

“Yeah, I’m gonna need that one.” He hands the book over to me, and I read the title. We Are Worthy. Cute name.

“If you end up liking that one, you should read the main character's brother's book.” He pulls out another book calledWe Are Destiny. “He’s in love with his sister's best friend, but she already has a pack. So when he realizes she’s his Alpha, shit hits the fan. But in a fun way, and also in a break-your-heart kinda way.”

“You know I don’t like sad endings.”

“Don’t worry, everything works out. Total happy ending. Two Omegas, one male and one female. Two hot, Viking Alphas, and a sexy little Alpha female. So much spice!” He fans himself. “I wish I was Spencer, that’s for sure.”

“But you don’t like women,” I laugh.

“I would if it meant I got to be the meat in that man sandwich.” He jabs his finger at the book. “Read it.”

“Okay, okay, I will,” I laugh.

“Now, shoo. Go look at all the pretty new editions we just got in.”

“He’s an interesting person.” Aiden comments as we leave Denny to look around.

“He’s a good guy. Just nosy.”

“Seems like most people in this town are. Not really fans of Alphas from what I’ve seen.”

“It’s to be expected,” I tell him as I look at the special edition table. “This town is built on the foundation of Omegas finding their safe place. But it’s not just Omegas. It’s anyone who needs a place to start over. Sadly, most people who live here have been hurt in some way by Alphas. Not all, but most. We’re very cautious when it comes to newcomers, especially Alphas. Don’t take it personally.” I look over at him.

He’s standing nearby, his hands in his pockets. He’s dressed in a red and black plaid coat, dark jeans, and black boots. He’sreally rocking the sexy, mountain man vibe, and I think I’m a fan of it.

“I don't,” he says. “You’re right, it’s to be expected. I just hate that there's so much evil in this world that a place like this needs to exist. Just because an Alpha has the kind of power they do, doesn’t mean they have the right to use it in any other way than what it’s intended for. We’re designed to be protectors and providers. The moment we make someone feel unsafe, we’ve failed our job as an Alpha. Being in power, thinking you're some kind of god and a gift to the world, doesn’t make you an Alpha, it makes you a piece of shit. That goes for any designation. Unfortunately, it’s Alphas who have the ability to abuse that power, to use a lot of things against Omegas. Control being the biggest but, sexually too. Alphas aren't owed an Omega’s body just because they’re an Alpha. A monster is a monster.”

I clutch the books to my chest, my body shaking with the need to cry. Damn pregnancy hormones.

“Damn you,” I croak out. Aiden’s face falls.

“I’m sorry if I said anything that upset you. That wasn’t my intention.” He pulls his hands from his pockets to reach for me, but he stops himself.

“I’m not upset with you.” I start to cry.God, how embarrassing.

“Siren, you’re killing me here,” he groans. “I really want to comfort you right now.
