“He’s an incubus. And he’s been dreaming about me too. For months. We were finding each other in our sleep without knowing the other was real.”
“I… what… HOW…”
“Fated mates,” I say simply. “He’s five hundred years old and he’s been waiting for me his whole life.”
Keke sits down heavily on one of the shop stools. “I need a minute.”
“Take your time.”
“No, I need you to keep talking because what the fuck.” She’s fanning herself. “So he broke down the door. Then what?”
I feel my cheeks burn. “Then he… claimed me.”
“Claimed you WHERE?”
“…on the prep counter.”
“What?!”
“I know!”
“THE COUNTER WHERE WE MAKE THE CHOCOLATES?!”
I laugh. “I know!”
“Oh, my God!” Now she’s laughing too. “Girl, I’m gonna need you to bleach that thing before I come back to work!”
I giggle. “Already on my list. And Rahel’s getting us a new door.”
“Rahel.” She repeats his name. “That’s Shadow Daddy’s government name?”
I nod, grinning like a lovesick fool. “And his MC name is Viper.”
Keke does a double take. “His what now? Your mate’s in a motorcycle club?!”
“Yep.”
Keke shakes her head before leaning close to the camera. “Where are you right now?”
I flip the camera around to show her the penthouse. The floor-to-ceiling windows, the view of Carmel spread out below us, the massive living room with its expensive furniture.
“Oh my God! Is that real art on the walls?” I laugh again. “Okay, I’m going to need you to marry him. Like, real quick. We need to lock this shit down.”
I laugh, returning the camera to my face. “Babe, we’re bonded.”
“Like, bite mark bonded?!” I tilt my neck to show her, and Keke screams. “Sis, you got mated in one freaking night?!”
“When you know, you know.”
She brings her face super close to the screen and whispers, “How is the sex?”
“Keke!”
“Girl, don’t you Keke me! A five-hundred-year-old incubus who’s been waiting foryou? Who literally broke down a door to get to you? I need all the fucking details.”
Before I can answer, I hear heavy footsteps behind me. Then a deep, rumbling voice.
“Talking about me, little one?”
