“‘Cuz yours is too small?” Bruiser drawled, joining them.

Uriel stiffened immediately. Doc sighed.

“Oh boy,” Crush muttered. “Time to get out of here, everyone.”

“You can’t. You need to stick around for the police statement,” Doc said.

Crush groaned. “Did someone bring me my phone? Can someone get it from my cabin? If we’re going to be stuck here for a while, I’ll need it so I can send some texts.”

“I’ll get it,” Doc said. “I wasn’t here for most of this, anyway.” He jogged off.

Crush’s parents came closer, ruffling Crush’s hair. “I’m glad neither of you were badly hurt,” Joe said warmly. He ruffled Killian’s hair, too. “As soon as you’re free to leave, take a bath. We’ll have a hot meal waiting for you at the pack house.”

“That sounds so good,” Killian moaned.

Joe beamed and turned to Uriel and Bruiser. “You’re welcome to eat with us, too.”

Uriel and Bruiser shot each other distrustful looks. “Thanks, but I really have to go,” Uriel said apologetically. “It’s been nice meeting all of you, though.”

“Thanks for your help with our territory,” Ashton added. “You’re welcome to drop by anytime, Uriel.”

Uriel grinned and waved, turning away. “You’re welcome. I’ll see you around.”

Bruiser glared after the mage, grinding his teeth.

“C’mon,” Crush said, carrying Killian away. “When Doc brings my phone over, I’ll text Zenith.”

Killian perked up. “Really? You’ll ask him to write me a book?”

Crush gave a mysterious smile. “You’ll see.”

A SECRET CHAT

Crush

Hey, Zen. Do you happen to write books that people request?

Zenith

Not usually, no. It depends on my muse. Why?

Crush

I would like to commission you to write one. A romance.

Zenith

I heard that you found an omega recently, but isn’t it weird to want a book written about you two?

Crush

No no, not about us. My omega wants a very particular kind of story.

Zenith

Give me the rough idea, and let me decide.
