His eyes move over me, like he doesn’t know which part of me to appreciate first. “I love your hair, Gracie. I’ve waited forever to see you like this. This is everything to me.”

Danny reaches for my hips and starts thrusting again, maintaining a steady pace. I surrender myself to him, arching my body to meet his movements.

“There is no one.”Thrust. “Else.”Thrust. “For me.”Thrust. “But you.” He gives a final thrust and then comes deep inside me. I can’t hold off any longer either, and lose myself to the irrepressible orgasm coursing through my body.

Danny looks down and stares like he wants to commit the visual to memory. For a few moments, all we do is grin at each other, just like our first time. When he pulls back, I feel some of his release leaking out of me.

He groans. “It’s so much better than my fantasies.”

“What is?” I ask breathlessly.

“Watching my cum run down your thighs.”

Well,that’snot like our first time.

Danny starts pushing it back in with his softening cock. “Soon enough,” he mutters under his breath, and somehowthatis what finally gets a blush out of me.

Collapsing next to me on the mattress, Danny catches his breath. I love that I wore him out. I turn onto my side and prop my head up with my hand. “Let’s do that again.”

He chuckles. “We need to get cleaned up. And I think I need an electrolyte drink, a shower, and maybe a nap before we go again.”

Danny gets up and pulls his boxers back on. Then, eyeing me like I’m made of porcelain, he gently wraps me in a blanket before carrying me into the house bridal-style, where he deposits me on the bathroom countertop. When he walks to the other side of the large bathroom and starts running a bath, I cross my fingers that he’ll get in with me.

This time, he does. Danny helps me into the water first so I don’t slip, and then lowers himself in behind me. I lean back against him. We soak in comfortable silence while he washes my hair and trails kisses down my neck.

Staring in wonder and a little disbelief as we get out of the bath, we dry off and climb into bed.

He turns toward me and strokes the crown of my head. “Hey, Gracie?”

Yawning sleepily, I roll on my side to face him. “Yeah?”

His forehead touches mine as he leans in closer. “Do you want to be my girlfriend? Like the kind where I kiss you?”

I reach up to cup his cheek with my right hand. “Are we not already together?”

“I didn’t want to assume anything,” he says solemnly.

I grin. “Yes, Danny. I want to be your girlfriend.”

“I knew it.”

He turns off the lights and grabs my hand. Danny lightly rubs my ring finger in a circular motion with his thumb. Feeling safe, warm, and happy, I blissfully fall asleep.

Chapter 44

Danny

July

After ten years apart, a few months together hasn’t been nearly enough. I know I’m making the right choice in retiring, because I’m dreading the end of this offseason.

Gracie and I are just trying to savor every last moment before I leave for training camp tomorrow. We start by spending our morning outside, lounging on Mom’s cherrywood stained deck. Before she left to shoot a wedding today, she waggled her eyebrows in a not-so-subtle way and said, “I figured I need the practice, if ya’ know what I mean.” Gracie beamed, and I couldn’t help but smile, too.

I feel like I’m discovering new things about her every day, like she’s someone I just met. Yet, sometimes, it’s like no time has passed at all.

We sit in padded wicker chairs. Given the heat, I’m not wearing a shirt, and Gracie’s in a sports bra and cotton shorts. I open up the bags of food we ordered, ready to devour the Greek salads and salty fries.

She squints at the bag and then at me. “Why are there two orders of fries in here?”
