“Vee, you have a real family.”
“Yes and no,” I said with a shrug. “I love my father—he’s done his best to be both a mom and a dad. Leigh and Lip are the siblings I never had. Other than thosepeople, family gatherings are like a continual business meeting, except for Daphne. I doubt she can spell business.” I shook my head. “I don’t want to talk about my family.”
“Maybe in time, I can get to meet them.”
My back straightened. “Grant and Uncle Darin may be an issue.”
“There’s nothing on the Coopers’ HR website that prohibits our fraternization.”
“You checked?” I asked.
“I did.”
My smile bloomed. “So did I.”
Fin lifted my hand. “I loved you when I left for Tennessee, Vee. If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have been as upset.”
“I loved you, too.”
He cupped my cheek. “Vee, I don’t think I ever stopped.”
The tears won.
Fin wiped the salty evidence away with his thumb. “That’s not supposed to make you sad.”
“It doesn’t. I loved you. All those things I said a few weeks ago were true. I shared so much with you because I trusted you completely.”
“And now?”
“I want to try to trust you again.” I leaned forward, kissing his strong lips. When I pulled away, I asked thequestion he said he’d answer after a kiss. “Why were you here in the building?”
“I met some of the team for drinks downstairs in the Vine Club.”
Hopping from his lap, I said, “If you’d rather…”
Fin stood. “I’m exactly where I want to be.” His cheeks rose. “I think the resident concierge made a mistake.”
“What mistake?”
“The keycard he gave me. He said it was a multi-use card.”
Warmth crept from my neck to my cheeks. “That wasn’t a mistake, Fin. It’s what I told him to give you.”
“I can make it to your floor anytime I want?”
I nodded.
“Aren’t you worried I’ll show up at all hours?”
Pushing Fin’s suit coat off of his shoulders, I grinned. “That’s exactly what I’m hoping.”
CHAPTER 33
Vee
“Armani,” I said, reading the tag of Fin’s sport coat. “Nice.” I folded it and laid it on one of the living room chairs.
Fin came toward me in one stride or maybe it was two. His arm again snaked around my waist, pulling my hips to his, and making my back arch to see his face. “If I take that dress off you, will I find a designer label?”
