But I take the flowers from him and put my nose to the petals like I always do. I’m trying real fucking hard to have an open mind and not think the absolute catastrophic worst of this man right now. I’ve come too far to blow everything up. I need to just let shit play out.
And I kinda wanna see where he’s going with this.
“Thank you, babe. They’re beautiful.”
“Of course. Anything for my wife.” He pushes the plates toward me. “Eat up. I have another surprise for you.”
Turns out, the surprise is a bubble bath in the jacuzzi tub. Bath salts. Bath beads. Rose petals on top. He gives me about thirty minutes to myself, then he comes in and bathes me.
He's up to something.
But I let him pamper me, because at least I can relax while I try to figure out what he's up to.
Next, a full body massage, complete with a happy ending, then the most passionate sex we've had in a while.
But I can't enjoy it. Something's wrong, I can feel it.
I just need to figure out what it is.
And get him before he gets me.

The site is buzzing today.
Christmas is in two days, and today is the last day of work until the new year. People that never smile are cheesing today. Practically skipping in this motherfucker.
“How’s the test going?” I ask Travis, the lead inspector.
He nods as he watches his people. “So far, so good.”
“Cool. Let me know if you have any questions.”
Next, I check on Accounts.
After that's done, I see Legal is onsite, so I go speak to them to put them at ease before they have to come search me out with a long list of problems.
I’m walking back to my trailer when Colin comes jogging up.
“Aye, ain’t seen you in a minute!” I say as I shake his hand. “What you doin’ in my neck of the woods?”
Colin falls right in step with me. “Got sent to this shithole.”
“Fuck you,” I say with a laugh. “Sent here for what?”
“Veronica’s out for a few days, maybe longer. You didn’t hear about it?”
I stop mid-stride, turning to face him. “About what?”
He gives a little shrug like he couldn’t care less. “Somebody shot her.”
“What?”
“Well, they shotather. Missed her. Anyway, she’s taking some time. It shook her up.”
“Yeah, I bet,” I say, but I’m already checked out of this conversation. I’m miles away, days behind, trying my hardest to remember if I put my gun back in my car or if I left it in Raya’s.
