Except he didn’t give a shit about me.
"What theactual fuckwere youthinking?" I did my best to maintain a neutral expression in the face of Declan's rage, but it wasn't easy. Guilt had me in a chokehold. I knew damn well it was all my fault Verity had been caught up in our shit.
And if Thea found out I'd put her sister in danger… fuck me, she'd make a necklace out of my balls.
"You're bloody lucky Thea hasn't heard about this!" Declan roared while banging his fist on the desk instead of my face.
Ronan sat smirking in the corner; he loved it when I got my ass nailed to the wall. Especially when it was well-deserved.
"Thank fuck she's OK." Dec sank down into his chair, rubbing his temples.
"You should calm down," Ronan suggested. "Too much stress is bad for you. Last thing we need is you keeling over from a heart attack."
For fuck's sake.My stupid twin never knew when to keep his fucking mouth shut.
"I'll calm the fuck down when you two idiots stop endangering Thea's sister."
Ronan leaped up in righteous fury. "Since when did I put her in danger? I would never harm a hair on that girl's head!"
"Really?" Declan had our brother up against the wall in a flash, his fist around his throat, before either of us could blink. If this was anyone else, Ronan would have murdered them, but Declan was bigger and meaner than him. "I haven't forgotten how you upset her the other night."
He threw me a dark look while Ronan slowly turned purple. I noted the faint gleam of amusement in my twin's eyes, though, so figured he'd survive. "Honestly, I'm tempted to send the pair of you away for a few weeks. Clearing out some rats up north will do you both good."
He released his grip on Ronan's neck and moved over to the bar cart to pour himself a drink, not bothering to offer us one. The fucker.
"Sure, Dec, get us out of the way. That'll leave the way clear for you, eh?"
I noted the flash of guilt on my elder brother's face shortly before he knocked Ronan to the floor.
Well, that was an interesting development.
He was right, though. We needed to stay the fuck away from her.
I planned to do just that, but whether Ronan took any notice of our older brother remained to be seen.

Ronan
Irubbed my jaw. Dec had granite fists, but we'd spent our entire lives sparring, so being punched in the face was nothing new.
He saw me smirking and glared threateningly. Part of me wanted to stir the pot some more, but I decided not to. I planned to make my Pixie girl mine, which would be easier if my brothers stayed out of the way.
Conal liked her too, but the stupid fuck had Maeve, and unless he buried her in an unmarked grave in the forest, I didn't like his chances of cutting her loose. The silly bitch had psycho ex written all over her in sky-high neon letters.
Maeve had glassed some girl in the face last year just for looking at Conal, so who knew what she'd do if she thought he wanted to get into Verity's pants.
"Fuck off," Declan snarled. "I have shit to clean up."
"The pigs can deal with Bren," I pointed out, although his noxious corpse probably give them indigestion.
"It's not Bren's body I'm concerned about. It's the remaining O'Rourkes. Pa's heard some unsubstantiated rumors Liam has made a deal with the Caruso cartel."
Great. Fun times lay ahead. I cracked my knuckles.
"Can't wait."
"Liam's gonna keep sending people after us," Conal remarked.
