But because I was already on his shit list, I moved to the small powder room attached to the office and disposed of it in there.
When I got back into the office, Emily was already in her jeans and had her arms behind her back as she was putting her bra back on.Completely nude still, I moved behind her to try and help her, but she stepped away from me.
Still, she said nothing.
With a heavy sigh and no idea what to say besides ‘I’m sorry’ or ‘I’m embarrassed’ yet again, I moved to my own clothes and started to pull them on.Emily had just reached for her shirt when I broke the silence.“You want to do dinner, maybe later tonight?”
I had to do something to make up for this.Shit, I had to try and find a way back in her pants so I could get a do-over.
“No, Rory.”She shook her head and pulled her shirt back on.When she pulled her long hair from the collar, letting it fall down her back, I nearly groaned aloud.Damn, I loved her hair.
No sooner than I thought it though, she was pulling it back and up high in a knot that sat at the top of her head. Now I couldn’t even watch the locks swaying as she walked away.
I quickly finished dressing and ran a hand through my own hair.
“It’s just dinner, Em.”
“Yeah, and I said this,” she waved a finger in a circle in the space between us, “was a one-time deal.”Yep, Ice Cold Emily was back.
Shit, I definitely preferred her hot and bothered over this ice queen persona she did so incredibly well.
I sat on the couch to slip my shoes back on, my finger nearly getting stuck behind my heel as I stepped down in a hurry.Emily was heading toward the door.I hopped up and bounded across the room to reach her before she could pull the door open.
“Dinner,” I said again, my lips brushing against the back of her head.
She didn’t bother turning toward me.Still facing the door, she shook her head, her hair brushing my lips as she did so.“No, Rory.”
I refrained from dropping my forehead to the back of her head, instead stepping back and allowing her to open the door.
This wasn’t over.
Oh no.
It was far from over.
I was just going to let her think she won.
Because Rory O’Gallagher didn’t lose.
Emily
That entire next week, every day I worked at O’Gallaghers Rory was there.
No, not working. We rarely worked together.
Oh no.He was there, seeking me out.
Couldn’t the guy just take a hint and go?I told him that sex between us was a one-time deal and while yeah, sure, we didn’t actually get tocompletethe deed—at least, I didn’t—what was done was done.I gave in to my moment of weakness where he was concerned and I was finished.
Maybe it had been gratitude for him giving me a bed to sleep in the night before, or maybe it was just me being stupid and wanting to see Rory’s charm turned to me, but I gave in and did dirty things with the one person I said I’d never let near me.
And now he wouldn’t leave me alone!
Oh, he wasn’t annoying or obnoxious about it, not really.
But he wasthere.Throwing those sly, cocky smiles my way.Leaning in toward me while I was at the bar giving one of the bartenders an order.
And damn, the man smelled wonderful.
