“Where am I?”

“Your home.”

“This is not my home.” I spit back. “Why am I locked up like an animal?”

“That’s a little unfair. I would never lock an animal up.” He smirks.

“But humans are fair game.” He was crazy. “Let me out now.” I demand.

“I don’t think you’re in a position to be making demands.”

“I want to go home.” I whine.

“You are home. Now, if you be a good girl, you’ll get out of that crate and if you don’t, I will treat you like an animal.”

I’m not sure what to say to him because he was just the new guy who moved to town. I wasn’t even sure how I ended up here. Nothing made sense.

“Now, I’m going to let you out for a while and let you stretch your legs. I’m hungry.” His eyes swim with darkness at the words ‘hungry.’

“People will come looking for me.” He sneers. “They will, your just a stranger and I’ve lived here my whole life.” I’m clutching at straws, I know I am but I have nothing else to give him other than the fear that he’d be caught.

“Your more of a stranger than me, little bird. Nobody knows a God damn thing about you.”

“Yes, they do.” I mutter. “They just like to pretend they don’t. I’m the girl with the tragic back story. This town is built on hiding things that aren’t sunshine and rainbows.”

“I’d love to hear about it.”

“Why are we friends now?” I mock.

“I’d like to think so.” He smiles.

“Do you often kidnap your friends?”

“Only the ones I like.” He winks. “Now, I’m going to let youout now. If you try to run, I won’t hesitate to throw you back in that cage.” He threatens.

I don’t say anything, I just nod because for all my bravery of acting like this wasn’t bothering me, I was completely terrified of him, there was a darkness there beneath his cool exterior and I wasn’t sure what it had to take for someone to decide to kidnap someone like this—no sane person would lock someone in a cage like this.

I didn’t want to show him I was scared, because I didn’t want him to win, but as I’d looked at my captor, I was terrified. Nobody would come and I would just die in the dark like a rabid animal.

He unlocks the cage and I hear the squeak of the door as it opens, I cower in the corner not daring to move, my eyes dart around the room looking at my surroundings, the dim light shows me that there is nothing here, a steel blackened door that he more than likely locked when he entered. Chains hung from the ceilings and the walls. What was this place? Stone flooring that explained why I had woken up cold and stone walls that were much like his house painted blacker than his heart.

“Come on, little bird, come on out.” I scowl at the ridiculous name he continues to call me.

On my hands and knees, I slowly crawl out of the cage. My knees dig into the floor and while it pinches with pain, I try not to make it look obvious as I crawl towards his feet.

“You can stand up.” How did he know if I could stand up, but as I get to my feet, I hear the bones in my legs crack and they feel much better. Looking down, there are bruises on my knees and my body was covered in dried mud.

“Good,” he smiles and grips my wrist, pulling me to the wall where the chains hang.

“Wait, I’m not running.” I protest. “I did as you asked.” I plead.

“I know, but I told you.” His eyes darken as his eyes penetrate my body. “I’m hungry.”

I watch as he pulls on the thinnest chain there and a materiel type seat that had chains hanging from it pulls down.

“This looks like a torture chamber.” I mumble, but he caught my words and I hear a throaty chuckle.

I don’t have time to react when I feel his large hands cup my ass and lift me into the air, my legs automatically flail in response as he puts me on the seat, he puts the steel cuffs around my ankles that have chains attached and holds my arm straight and cuffs each one of those.
