"Fucking hell, Gio!" I shout, spitting salty water, half-blinded and furious. "I swear I’ll kill you!"

But Gio is already running and laughing.

I chase after him, stumbling slightly, cursing him loudly.

17) You’re Beautiful

Rava

-After The Beach-

Finally, I sit down on my bed, rubbing my wet hair with a towel. There’s still lots of noise coming from the next room, even though it’s 2:00AM in the morning.

I get up to close my door, but then realize I’m out of water. I sigh, heading downstairs to fill up a jug from the kitchen. It’s dark and quiet downstairs, which feels good. Then, suddenly, someone speaks from the corner, startling me.

"Oh, hey Rava," a soft voice says. "Can’t sleep either?"

It’s one of Daisy’s friends, I think her name is Elodie. Or Eleanor?! I don’t care.

She’s leaning against the kitchen counter, holding a glass.

"Yeah, just came to grab some water,"

I should probably say something. Anything. She might think I’m crazy for just looking at her.

"Uh, thanks."

She keeps smiling, stepping closer.

Is she…? Nah, can’t be.

"Anyway, um, goodnight," I say quickly, grabbing the glass and practically sprinting up the stairs before she can reply. Closing my door behind me, I sit on the bed and let out a breath.

What was that about? This summer isn’t going as planned at all. My phone buzzes, startling me. I glance down, confused.

A message from Gio. What the hell? Without thinking, I tap the notification. My heart is going crazy for no reason.

GIO:

-Hey. How’s your heart? I’m worried.

ME:

-What do you mean?!

GIO:

-Just wondering. Because it was beating way too fast when I hugged you earlier.

Heat rushes up my neck and face. Shit. I hadn’t realized he noticed. My heart is racing again. I force myself to type, keeping my reply curt and harsh.

ME:
