One stupid tear slips down before I can stop it. I wipe it away fast, angry at myself, angry at everything.

I lift the phone again and reread the messages because I enjoy emotional self-destruction.

I clench the phone in my hand. I feel cold and hot all at once. "Rava?" Her voice hits from behind me.

I turn around slowly.

She walks out of the water, smiling like nothing happened.

"Hey, what took you so—"

Her eyes land on her phone in my hand. Everything on her face changes.

First confusion. Then guilt. Then panic. "Give me that." She reaches out, but I don’t let go.

"You’re disgusting," I say.

"Rava, I can explain—"

"Explain what, Sophia? That you’ve been sexting Gio behind my back? The guy you saw foroneminute?!" I laugh, mocking her. "Jesus, Sophia. Gio?"
