"Okay." Katherine nods along. "I like the bam part." Her nose scrunches. "But what if you fall for him?"
"Oh, gross." I roll my eyes. "That would never happen."
"Right." Katherine's expression turns skeptical.
"Right," I say with more force. Won't ever happen.
"Famous last words," Katherine mutters.
But I know myself. I've got this under control. I have mastered the art of seduction. It might be through a computer screen, but how different could it be? Only one way to find out…. Now, those might be my famous last words.
Chapter Ten
PIERCE
Ishouldn't have kissed her, but I don't give a fuck. She's been far too tempting not to. I’m finding I have little to no self-control when it comes to her. I'd been watching her for over an hour. I hadn't been the only one. Tinsley lights up the whole fucking room. She has this aura about her.
I've heard the saying before and wrote it off, but I get it now. She's special. Tinsley can change the energy in the room and fill it with her own, and it's contagious to the people around her. It's easy to see how much the rest of the town adores her.
I'm jealous as fuck, but I also enjoy simply watching her. That outweighs the jealousy, unless anyone gets too close, that is. It's not hard to spot who the locals are and who the tourists are. None of the local men are eye-fucking her. But the tourists are an entirely different story.
"Oh, are you the lawyer?" A woman with whitish-blond hair asks, coming to stand next to me. I'm at the end of the bar with my attention down the hallway where the girls disappeared. I recognize her as Hollis’ wife, Candy, from the pictures in his office.
"I'm Pierce," I tell her, with a slight nod of my head as a greeting.
"Sweet girl." Hollis comes up behind his wife.
"I was just saying hi to the man you snuck into the house this afternoon." Her tone is teasing. Nothing gets past anyone in this town. It’s both freaky and impressive.
“We had a quick word today. We know some of the same people.”
“As in Tinsley?" Candy peers up and over her shoulder at Hollis.
“She is one of them.”
Candy gives a knowing nod. “I saw the kiss.” Candy turns her attention back to me, her eyes flicking up and down. “You know what you’re doing?”
“Around here, not so much, but I’m figuring it out.”
A small laugh leaves her. “I can understand that more than most.” Candy turns to face Hollis. “I’m going to go say bye to the birthday girl.” She lifts on her heels and presses a kiss to his cheek before heading down the hallway. I see the door open, and she’s yanked inside.
“Are you sure people don’t know?” I ask Hollis.
“It was only a few I was worried about knowing. They’ll keep it hush to not stir a panic.”
“Have you heard anything new yet?”
“Nope,” Hollis sighs.
“I have an idea, but I might need your help.” His brows lift, but he listens as I tell him my half-assed plan I came up with five minutes ago.
I expect him to tell me no, but I know you miss all the shots you never take. I decide to take mine, explaining my intentions to Hollis in full detail.
"Tonight?" That's not a no. I really wasn't expecting that. Noticing that's becoming a theme around here.
"I'll have to see how it goes."
"You have my number."
