“Wait.”
“What?” she snapped.
“Where are you going?” My voice was level in a low, warning tone that should have told her just how much trouble she was in.
And in true Sophia fashion, she rolled her eyes and glared at me. “Away from you. While you’re here, I would rather just stay in my room.”
Cocking my head to the side, I studied her. “Then you will be in your room for a while. Because I’m not leaving.”
There was a second, just one second, where her eyes widened and a look of shock was in her eyes, and then she blinked, and it was gone. She shrugged. “Whatever, Matteo. It’s your house.”
“And you’re my woman.”
“Am I? Fuck.”
My eyes narrowed. “Living in England has given you a potty mouth, Sophia,” I warned. “The old you would never talk like that. I’m not sure I like it.”
Slowly and deliberately, she lifted her head. “You would have never put the old me in that situation. You would not have dared.”
She had a point there, but I didn’t say anything. “You may go toyour room, but don’t think about coming out until you are ready to apologize.”
She flipped me the bird. “Whatever you say, dad.”
I bit back a laugh. “You’re acting like a child, Sophia,” I called out after her. My eyes were glued to her ass because it swayed so deliciously when she walked, and no matter how angry I was with her, I always liked looking at her.
“And you’re an asshole,” she said the second before the bedroom door slammed.
I stood there, half tempted to go after her, but that would just prove that she had gotten under my skin. It would give her the upper hand.
Shaking my head, I turned in the opposite direction. There was one room in this apartment that was for me, and that’s where I headed. My study.
Simply but comfortably furnished, I hadn’t planned on using it any time soon, but Sophia had forced my hand. She might have just ruined a business arrangement that could cost me a lot of money.
Yes, I had wanted to see her reaction to Franny, but I hadn’t expected such…violence.
Falling into the seat behind the desk, I stared at my phone and debated who to call next. Only my fingers didn’t move across the touch screen. Instead, I smiled.
She got jealous.
Part of the reason I had taken Sophia there was that I knew Franny was going to show up. I wanted to gauge her reaction and finally how she really felt.
If she had acted like she didn’t care, I would have known that her feelings for me were gone, but she hadn’t acted like that at all.
In fact, she had acted like a raging lunatic, and I was down for it.
Because that meant Sophia still cared, and that meant I could use her feelings.
A small knock sounded on the wooden door, and my head snapped up.
“Can I come in?” Pushing open the door a crack, Sophia popped her head inside.
“What do you want, Sophia?” Leaning back, I yawned. As much as I wanted her jealousy, I didn’t have time for her theatrics right now.
She hesitated, her eyes darting around the room like she hadn’t seen it before, even though I knew from watching the cameras that she had explored every inch of this apartment.
“I…” She scrubbed at her face with her hands before dropping them and meeting my eyes. And I could tell that she was struggling with something.
“I just wanted to apologize for what happened earlier. I overstepped and…”
