They lay in each other’s arms for a long time. Drew traced imaginary circles across Brooke’s back. Brooke felt a genuine contentment unlike anything she’d felt with other partners. It was rare for Brooke to feel so unguarded so quickly. Any other time she’d likely overanalyze that. Tonight she was too sleepy from her orgasms. She wrapped her leg around Drew’sbody effectively trapping the woman in place. If Drew had any complaints about the move she didn’t admit to them. Instead, Drew sank in just as deep as Brooke.

“Tonight definitely ended better than I expected,” Drew laughed.

“We still need to finish our dinner,” Brooke yawned.

“I’m surprised you still have an appetite,” Drew laughed. Brook shot her a generous portion of side eye and Drew held up her hands in defense.

They redressed and sat down to eat in the living room. Brooke glanced around at the sparse furnishings.

“We’ve got to get you a couch or something in here,” Brooke teased.

“I don’t know. I’m kind of appreciating the minimalism,” Drew laughed. Brooke shook her head and groaned.

“Are you sad to not be dating Robin anymore?” Brooke asked. She regretted asking the question as soon as it was out of her mouth, but she still wanted to know the answer.

“No. I don’t regret it. Dating Robin was easy. But it was easy for the wrong reasons.”

“And what were these wrong reasons?” Brooke asked.

“It was easy because I didn’t have any real feelings for her. I was just going through the motions. But I never expected Robin and I to end up together.”

“Then why keep going out with her?”

“Because it wasn’t uncomfortable enough for me to leave. I didn’t have anything else waiting on the horizon, so staying was easy.”

Brooke could certainly understand staying past something’s expiration date.

“Do you think things with me will end up being serious?”

“I hope things with you will end up being serious,” Drew answered sweetly.

“Is your answered colored by the fact that you just had an orgasm?”

Drew laughed out loud.

“Maybe a little,” Drew admitted. She inclined her head towards Brooke.

“But that doesn’t make what I said any less true,” Drew added.

“How about you? Do you see us being serious?” Brooke asked.

“I would like for us to be serious.” Drew gave her a smile that almost made Brooke’s heart stop.

They were still just getting to know one another. It was too early to be as hopeful as Brooke’s heart felt. It was also too soon for promises. Still Brooke couldn’t help the feeling of warmth that flooded her system.

Chapter 14

Drew couldn’t remember the last time she’d been this happy. She and Brooke had been joined at the hip for several days. So much so that they hardly mentioned Brooke’s floors. Brooke had stopped asking the landlord when the floors would be fixed. They each seemed content to continue this arrangement for the foreseeable future.

Tonight, the two of them were going on a date. Drew was beyond excited to get Brooke out of their apartments. They had mostly been watching television and eating dinner every night. Drew had settled into the lazy comfort that was a routine. Taking Brooke out was long overdue. A nice restaurant, then a walk around the Opry Hotel to look at the lights.

Drew had been worried that being forced to spend so much time together during a newly forming romance might have smothered their flames out. On the contrary the more time she spent with Brooke the more time she wanted with her. Things had progressed so much faster than Drew could have imagined. Not that she was complaining.

Brooke came out of the bedroom looking like a knockout. She wore an oversized red cashmere sweater and a pair of jeansthat seemed molded specifically to her curves. The whole thing together had Drew practically drooling all over herself. She looked down at her own outfit and hoped it wasn’t too lacking in the style department.

“I hope I’m not too underdressed,” Drew confessed.

“Don’t be ridiculous. You have the kind of effortless style that people would kill for.”
