“You do?”
“Of course. I want to meet all the important people in your life.”
Autumn’s heart swelled at Quinn’s words. Her parents intimidated most people, Autumn included. It was nice that Quinn wanted to be so integrated into her life.
“Besides, if we’re together I should meet your parents,” Quinn leaned in and gave her a quick kiss on the lips.
“You’re right. I’m sure it’ll be a great visit.”
Autumn sent her mom a confirmation text. She loved her parents and was excited to see them, even if having them here to examine her life made Autumn nervous.
Chapter 23
As far as Quinn was concerned the last few weeks had been the best in her life. All she could feel was gratitude for the way that Autumn had chosen to forgive her. Since then they’d spent every night together.
This morning she rolled over and found Autumn laying with her blonde hair surrounding her. Quinn allowed her arm to come around Autumn’s waist pulling her closer.
“Good morning,” Autumn whispered with a smile.
“Good morning,” Quinn whispered back.
“How did you sleep?” Quinn asked.
“Pretty well. I still say I have the better mattress,” Autumn teased.
“No arguments here. You definitely have the better mattress,” Quinn laughed.
They had fallen into the habit of spending weeknights at Autumn’s place. The bar wasn’t unreasonably busy on Mondaythrough Thursday. But on weekends they spent the night in Quinn’s apartment above the bar. Quinn was realizing the pitfalls of staying above the bar while trying to entertain a special guest.
Autumn leaned in and gave Quinn a kiss on the lips. From the side table Autumn’s phone buzzed. Quinn rose from the bed and went to the kitchen. She knew Autumn was likely to spend several minutes sorting through work emails and she wanted to start their coffee.
A few short minutes later Autumn entered the kitchen with a worried expression.
“What’s wrong?” Quinn asked concerned.
“I’m just afraid that I forgot something for my Mom and Dad’s visit.”
“Sweetie, you’ve gone above and beyond for this visit. Everything is perfect.”
“Flowers. Did I order flowers for my apartment?” Autumn asked her eyes wide.
“No, but my best friend is a florist. I’m having Madison make arrangements. I’m going to pick them up and take them to your place later today,” Quinn smiled.
She watched as Autumn practically melted into the floor. Quinn had always been good at reading people, and findingout what was important to them. Autumn was easily the most independent person she’d ever met. So when Quinn was able to fill in the gaps and make the woman’s life a little easier Autumn was always impressed and grateful.
“You did that for me?” Autumn asked. Quinn was certain there were tears in Autumn’s eyes. She wrapped her arms around Autumn and brought her in for a hug.
“Of course. I told you. I’m here for you. In this case that means making sure there are flowers.”
“You’re amazing,” Autumn whispered. She pulled away and gave Quinn a quick kiss on the lips.
“They’re just flowers,” Quinn insisted with a smile.
“They aren’t just flowers to me,” Autumn answered.
Quinn searched Autumn’s deep blue eyes. She always felt like she could get lost in her eyes if she tried hard enough. Quinn settled into the moment knowing that if they dove a little deeper they could wind up back in the bedroom. Autumn pulled away with a reluctant sigh.
“I wish I could stay. But I have to finish up some work before Mom and Dad get here.”
