And so devastatinglyperfect.
I melted into him, wanting the moment to last forever.
When he pulled away, I wanted more, my insides screaming.
Then he said, “I’m giving you a ride home, Reagan. And I’m not letting you say no.”
There went my panties.
CHAPTER THREE
Wilde
I wasn’t lettingher drive home in the snow, but I also didn’t want the night to end. She made me feel good.
Different from how I had in a long, long time and I wasn’t about to let her out of my sight.
My sister was right, like she so often was. I should’ve said yes from the beginning and fully trusted her instincts. They hadn’t let me down yet.
But none of that mattered right now. What mattered right now was her. Reagan. And getting her safely home.
I helped her into my truck and fired up the engine, hoping it wouldn’t take long for it to warm up. “Rock is my go-to but feel free to change the station.” I said to Reagan before sliding back out of the truck to clean off the snow.
When I got back inside, the radio hadn’t changed and I shot her a grin. “You like rock, too?”
“Guilty as charged.”
God, this woman was perfect. I couldn’t be grumpy around her if I tried. I’d never admit it to a soul, but I was grumpy fromloneliness. Then again, it was a loneliness I wanted, a way to shield myself from the pain love always seemed to invite in. Can we ever just be happy without feeling like there was a price to pay?
“Guess Elena meant what she said when she told me we had a lot in common.”
Reagan smiled. “She told me the same thing. I was stuck on the fact that you liked the classics. That’s all it took, I guess.” She chuckled to herself and it was the most adorable thing.
I winked at her, loving how it made her cheeks flush a deep red. “It’s not an easy quality to come by. We’re a special crowd. So, what’s your address?” I held up my phone, now open to the GPS app.
She rattled off her street name, and I plugged it in. It wasn’t far from here. Thankfully, I knew the way, but in the shitty weather, I left the GPS on in case I couldn’t see an upcoming turn. The snow was coming in sideways and blowing fast, blizzard like conditions quickly developing.
While I navigated the streets, we talked over the low playing music, quizzing each other to see how much we really did have in common. Turned out we had the same favorite number and color, but not animal. Fine by me, because honestly, I was starting to think it was strange how alike we were. She also loved pizza and cheeseburgers as her favorite foods and I chose desserts, like cheesecake, pie, and ice cream. There were so many good ones, it was hard to choose.
Twenty minutes later, I pulled into her driveway, the snow increasing as the minutes passed. There’ll be two feet of snow by tomorrow morning at this rate.
“Thanks again for the date. It was a lot of fun,” Reagan said as soon as I parked the car. She placed her hand on the door handle and looked away from me.
Ask her to come home with you. Do something crazy for once in your life.
No.Love equals hurt, remember?
Love hurts.
It hurts a lot.
She looked back, and our eyes connected, tethering me to her and her to me. What was happening? How could…
She opened her mouth to say something.
Say it. Please say it. I’ll say yes to whatever you ask. Whatever it is.
You say it, dummy! She’s waiting for you!
