Sophie looks up. Her eyes are wide, and there’s no way she can hide the hopefulness. At least I hope it’s hopeful. “Who?” she asks in a strangled voice. “Who are you waiting for?”

“Sophie,” I tsk as I lift her chin with a finger. “Did you have a concussion that I don’t know about? Because I thought I’d been pretty obvious about things.”

“You haven’t,” she says, with a little too much emphasis for my liking.

I nod ruefully, holding her brown-eyed gaze captive. This close, I can see the gold and green flecks in her eyes. The way her lashes are thick and sweep her cheeks.

Why do we have to talk about things? Is that just something that women expect, or do men really want the long, where do we go nextdiscussions? Because I am not a fan.

“Ok,” I say.

I’m tired of talking. I’m ready to justdo.

I lean down, the scent of strawberries and cookies surrounding me, and find Sophie’s lips with mine.

I’m also tired of waiting.

Sophie

Ashtonis…he’s…

We’re kissing.

The way he leans down provides the perfect angle when I tilt my head just so.

Soft lips, and just the right amount of insistence, like this is what he’s wanted to do for a while.

I really hope it is.

His hand cups my cheek, like he’s cradling my head. Cradling my heart.

This kiss feels like it’s more of a promise than the spark that was lit with our first kiss. Our lips fit together in a way that makes me smile against him.

“You’re smiling,” Ashton says against my mouth.

“How can you tell?”

“I can always tell when you’re smiling.”

Now I can’t stop smiling, which is taking away from the kiss. I give a huff of disappointment when Ashton pulls away.

He is also smiling, his blue eyes brighter than I’ve ever seen. “Now will you let me take you shopping?”

“Is that why you kissed me?” I demand.

“No.”

Why did you kiss me?is what I want to ask, but maybe I don’t need to.

Maybe just the way he looks at me is enough.

“I knew you’d finally agree, though,” he adds, straightening, his hand falling from my cheek to my shoulder.

His hand is warm. He smells amazing.

Of course I’m going to go shopping with him.
