FINN
Legend restedhis injured hand on his chest and had one arm slung over his eyes. His lips were parted, and as horrible as I felt for him, I fixated on his mouth. I wanted to kiss him better. Heat washed through my stomach, and I leaned down to brush my mouth over his. He smirked and grasped me with his good hand, hauling me tight against his front.
“Does it hurt a lot?” I asked, pouting a little. I was being over the top—I really was concerned for him—but I figured the flirting might take his mind off his problem. I would’ve been on my way to the hospital if the stripe of red welts springing up on his hand was on mine. I didn’t want to test my theory, but I thought each dot—which reminded me of a bee sting—would be hot to the touch.
“Not at all, Lolly,” he murmured with a wink.
Huffing, I rolled my eyes. “Can I get you some ice?”
“Mm-hmm.” He nodded. “I’ll eat you up if you come back to me as an iced lolly.” He snickered at his own joke, and I wasn’t entirely sure what he thought was funny, but I patted his chest. Maybe the jellyfish bite—no,sting—was getting to him. They didn’t have teeth, so they couldn’t bite, right? He arched off the bed to kiss me, still holding me close, but I pushed him back.
“Don’t move.”
“I won’t. I’ll wait right here for my pretty nurse to return.”
Sticking my tongue out at him only made him laugh. Rolling my eyes, I hopped up off the bed. I peeked out of the bedroom door and couldn’t quite remember my way around the house, not that I’d seen the whole thing, but I went down the hall and through the living room, then heard laughter. I stuck my head into what turned out to be the dining room. Stormy, Cyclone, and Diedre all turned to look at me.
Cyclone’s lips quirked and she tossed her hair over her shoulder. “He make you angry enough to leave already? Can’t say as I’m surprised.”
“No,” I said with a laugh. “If I were an ice pack, where would I be?”
“The freezer!” Stormy shouted, bouncing.
“And where’s that?” I asked.
“Come on!” she said, hopping off her chair.
Cyclone and Diedre laughed, and I followed the pint-sized whirlwind. She rushed along a short hallway into the kitchen and raced to a stainless steel fridge with double doors. When she opened the left door, she pointed, and I spotted an entire top shelf full of ice packs.Hm, people must get hurt around here a lot.I snatched one out and gave her a smile.
“Thanks. Now, how about dish towels?”
“Oh, here!” Stormy dragged me over to a drawer, and I opened it. She decisively tugged out a white dish towel with lemons along the border and handed it to me.
Cyclone stepped into the kitchen as I was wrapping the towel around the pack and smirked. “How’s he going?”
Biting my lip, I shrugged. “He’s definitely in pain. Are you sure we can’t give him something to take the edge off?”
“It really won’t touch it, honey,” Diedre called from the dining room. “It’s a hell of a thing.”
Cyclone shook her head. “This is karma for not paying attention to those pets of his.”
Stormy tugged on my skirt and leaned close, inspecting it. “Mum, can I have a dress like this?”
Laughing, I ran my fingers through her dark curls and smoothed down a little rumpled bump. “I’ll keep an eye out for a nice yellow sundress. What do you think?” The idea of buying cute tiny dresses made me smile. She would be adorable.
“Yay! Yes!”
“She already has an army’s worth of clothes,” Cyclone said with a small roll of her eyes. “Uncle Leggy buys her everything a girl could want or need and then some.”
“But I don’t have one like this!” Stormy crossed her arms and glared at her mother. “Please, I won’t spill anything on it if you get me one!”
“It’s okay,” I said, leaning down to whisper. “I’ll tell Uncle Leggy you want it.”
She danced around, even though her arms were still crossed, and I was laughing as I carried the ice pack into the bedroom. The bed was acres of space for a little girl, and I smiled and shook my head. It was clear who was the princess in this family.
Legend snagged me around the waist when I got close to the bed and tugged me down on top of himself. The move would’ve hurt a smaller man, but he hummed when I spread my legs and wriggled closer. He had no trouble holding my weight at all. The smug expression on his face disappeared as I gently laid the ice pack on his injured hand, and he hissed. I squirmed on top of him.
“I was going to take your mind off your problem, but that doesn’t seem possible.” Rocking my hips against his, I drew attention to his obvious lack of hard-on.
