“You didn’t have to pay, at least.” I snuggled in against his chest.

“That’s true!” He took me over and set me carefully on the edge of the tub.

My emotions were all over the place again at the gentle action, and I couldn’t look him in the eye as he tapped buttons on the side of the tub. Steaming water began to thunder against the porcelain from two different crystal faucets. I’d never seen anything like it. He went to the sink and ducked down, and when he came back, he held up a bottle of something. The second I saw vanilla on the front I made grabby hands, and he laughed, passing it over.

“Spa Bubbles. I’ve never heard of this brand. Where did this come from?” I asked.

He shrugged. “Mum stocks my bathroom. It’s not hers, but she bought it, maybe thinking some day I might bring someone home who would like it.” He stroked my hair off my forehead and smiled at me, then leaned down and pressed a kiss to the tip of my nose. “Go ahead. You get in the bath, and when you’re finished, go out to the kitchen and grab a bite. We’ll have a nice dinner tonight, but you must be hungry.”

“I don’t have to do this.” I gestured at the tub as he went off to the shower.

He waved a hand at me, and I almost swallowed my tongue as I watched him close the glass door and turn on the water. I hadn’t seen his ass while he was fucking me, and the muscles were firm and high. I’d been missing out. “No need for you to rush. You take your time,” he said, voice bouncing around the room.

Shrugging, I grinned. If a sexy man who’d fucked me until I’d almost touched God wanted me to take my time to indulge—and he also happened to be a mob boss—who the hell was I to say no?No one, that’s who.I’m Finn McCorkell, and I like to take orders.Snickering, I tipped bubble bath into the tub, probably more than I needed, and grinned as white fluffy bubbles immediately began to pile up.

Sliding into the water, I closed my eyes and relaxed as the heat loosened my muscles. Someone turned off the water at some point, and I cracked an eyelid open, but Legend shushed me.

“You can nap in here. It’s all right,” he said. Lips touched my forehead.

When my eyes snapped open later the water was cool and the bubbles were gone, but the air still smelled faintly of vanilla. I smiled and dunked under the surface, then found some shampoo and conditioner at the end of the tub and used it.

By the time I left the bathroom with a towel wrapped around my waist I was squeaky clean and feeling amazing—and somehow, Legend was right. I was starving to death.

My good mood faded when my attention landed on my open suitcase on the bed. I sighed and frowned. I hated that so many people had seen—and touched—my pretty underwear, and the yellow silk romper I loved still had a huge hole in it when I tugged it out to look at it. I tossed the romper onto the bed and pulled out lingerie until I found a pair of blue silk boy shorts—with a nice pouch in front for my dick—which were still folded. I pulled them on and loved the way the fabric caressed my skin like a cloud. There was a small ribbon in front that I tied.

Would Legend enjoy this?

There was a matching strip of lace that I slipped over my head. The piece of fabric was a bra, but on me it was more just a band of blue silk that hid my nipples. The thin ribbons that settled on my shoulders were cute, though. I loved the way the fabric made my chest seem a little more curvy. Feeling better again, I pulled out a black T-shirt and slid it on, then pulled on a pair of black jeans. Maybe the clothes would be too much for the heat, but I didn’t have anything better to wear.

Sucking in a deep breath, I opened the bedroom door and peeked out into a short hallway. That view wasn’t too scary, so I ventured into the dining area where we’d all been earlier. I was excited when I spotted the kitchen and scooted into it. Two huge windows looked out toward the ocean and my breath caught at the view before my stomach growled and sent me in a beeline toward the fridge. As I stared inside at containers my mind finally kicked back online for something other than sex.

What were we going to do without our passports? Someone had taken them on purpose. Maybe they wanted to make sure we were too scared to do our jobs. If we had to get new passports, then the people who issued those would know we were in town. And maybe the gun had been used on purpose. Maybe whoever knew the Killough Company was here to help Legend wanted the police to realize we were here, too. Or at least, the cops would have our names written down somewhere if we complained about a robbery.

Maybe firing the gun was an accident? I’d surprised him. Would an Italian crime family really think we would go to the cops about stolen belongings? Did they think that little of the Irish? Anger began to smash around inside me.

Well, it would take a lot more than one bullet that didn’t even draw blood to send me running home. I tugged out a glass dish with a red lid and peered inside.

“Just what do you think you’re doing, darl?” a woman snapped.

I spun around and almost dropped the container of mashed potatoes. The fridge door drifted shut. “Legend said if I was hungry, it was okay to....” I felt awful as I raised the container in my hand, and his mother glared. If she’d told me her first name, I couldn’t remember it. I’d been too busy having a mini breakdown earlier today.

She waved a hand and huffed. “Not that. I don’t care that you’re rummaging in our fridge. I know my son gets ideas about things, but you had a woman around enough already that barely a day in the country, she’s leaving half her knickers with you. Now, today, you’re in his bed! I can’t help but think you can’t be good for my boy.” She crossed her arms and her lips thinned.

I glanced between her and the food, then turned and shoved the container back into the fridge as a huge wave of guilt swamped me. I didn’t mind lying to strangers, but I didn’t like lying to my friends or Legend’s family. I’d sort of been doing it for a long time now, though.

“How did you know that?” I asked, then cleared my throat.

“I have ears,” she said sternly, pointing at one. “The boys saw her things at the police station. Legend told them what was what, and that it wasn’t their business because you’re going to be with him now. I suppose I commend you for honesty. You must’ve told him about her, or he wouldn’t have known. But if you’re the type who has a new partner for every night of the week, it won’t work out. Whatever woman or man you’re dumb enough to fool around with will be floating dead in the ocean. The bloodshed is avoidable. Break things off with Legend.” She took off her black-rimmed glasses and glared while shaking her head. Her wavy gray hair swung in front of her eyes and she pushed it back.

“He wouldn’t let me,” I said, feeling confident that was true. I didn’t want to think about telling him goodbye. Even if he didn’t love me, he really liked fucking me, and he’d made me feel as if I was still beautiful.

She rolled her eyes and shook her glasses at me. “I’ll help you book a flight home, and you’ll be out of our hair. He’s got other things to deal with. Important things.”

My stomach swooped toward my toes because the implication was clear—I was a distraction and nothing else.

“I—”

“I’m not asking,” she said, tone arctic. “Do it.”
