I stared out the windshield, taking in the sun as it peeked between the tall buildings. The light was about to shine on the shiteshow that had happened last night. The cops would be on the lookout. All our enemies would hear about the shakeup in the Company. I wouldn’t be surprised if the police had already visited Sloan in the hospital, asking questions he wouldn’t be willing to answer.
“Ye and me both, tater tot.” I reached over and linked our fingers together before raising his hand and laying a kiss on it. “We’re gonna be okay. We need to be. For Vail and Aspen, and hell, even fecking Cillian.”
He chuckled lightly. “Yes, I would like to fuck Cillian again.”
I rolled my eyes.
“Speaking of fucking, wow.” He gave me a wicked grin. “You, sir, are amazing when you get real with me.”
My cheeks heated and I cleared my throat. “I wanted to make love to ye in a bed.”
He laughed, blue eyes sparkling despite his tiredness. “Trust me, we’ve got plenty of time for that. You can fuck me as many times as you want. Wherever the hell you want.”
I shook my head, ignoring the heat that scorched my face. I wasn’t going to be embarrassed because I’d enjoyed it as much as he had. I would make sure to give him a range of experiences, from rough to as gentle as he deserved.
“Fallon?” I glanced at him, and he tilted his head, wearing the sweet smile that always had men and women swooning over him. Well, too bad, because he was ours now.
“Yeah?”
“I love ye.”
His eyes widened and his mouth dropped open before his grin returned, wide and stretching across his handsome face. “I love you, too! Want me to give you a blowjob?”
I rolled my eyes, and he laughed loudly.
“Ye know, it would be my luck that we got out of that bullshite with the Cartel without getting arrested, only to have a cop see ye on me knob while I drive. No, thank ye, love. I’ve only got so much luck to spare and we’ve used it up for now.”
He snickered and it was so cute I smiled along with him.
We arrived back at Mount Pleasure, and we made it to the room with our bloody prisoner without any new trouble finding us. Mickey scampered off to less gory work. Lejo was half awake, and we got straight to business. He had a few teeth left that I wanted to rip from his mouth. And Fallon, the sweetheart he was, retook his position behind Lejo. We tortured him for another twenty minutes before my phone vibrated in my pocket.
I passed the pliers to Fallon and stared down at my hands. They were covered in dots of blood. I didn’t have the time to clean the mess, though, so I shoved my hand into my pocket and pulled out my phone, answering it instantly when I saw Sloan’s name.
“Boss?” I shifted away from Lejo and out of the room for some quiet and privacy. My heart hammered as I thought about Sloan telling me Fionn had died, and a lump grew in my throat. “Is everything okay?”
“I heard you got the man. Has he told you anything?” Sloan growled.
“Uh no, sir. We’ve started on him, but the only thing he’s said is that he’s not important enough to know where his shite friends would go. I don’t believe him. He must know something. Bare minimum, they would have an emergency meetup spot.” I shifted my weight between my feet, dread trickling down my spine. “How’s Fionn, Boss?”
The silence on the other end made my stomach churn. Finally, Sloan grunted. “He’s strong. He’s fighting.”
“Good. That’s good to hear.” I ran a hand through my hair.
“I’m sending a couple of men to relieve you.”
“Sir?” I frowned and glanced at the door to the room, where more screaming erupted. Fallon must’ve taken over.
“You need to be with Vail, and you deserve to sleep. Conall told me what happened with Vail. I told him to stay there. He should never have gone home, even after what Irving told them. But what’s done, is done. As long as he’s safe.” Sloan paused and there was something in his tone—a sadness. “You’ve proven your loyalty to me, and I appreciate it, but it’s time to rest. I’m going to need all of you at your best because the hardest battle is about to begin.” He inhaled deeply. “Listen to me, Rowen. The cops are sniffing around, and they already arrested Reyes. We didn’t tell them anything, we’re not rats, but they got video footage from the street the bar faces, and they charged Reyes with obstruction of justice. I have no doubt they’ll be back for me, at the very least for leaving the crime scene. They’ll find something. There were a few bodies still in that alley when the cops went into it.”
I’d suspected that would be the case. The cops tried to find any reason to get Sloan behind bars under normal circumstances. This was a perfect excuse, even if it was the smallest charge they could get.
“I need you and your men to protect my pet and nephew, no matter what. Promise me you’ll always have their backs.” The hardened tone of his voice cracked and the hint of vulnerability that showed had my heart clenching.
“Always, Boss. They will be under our protection.”
He sighed. “Good.... Good.” He clicked his tongue. “Someone will be there soon. Go home and be with your boys. Aspen and Cillian will be back tomorrow morning.”
He ended the call. I stared at the phone long after it went to a black screen and frowned. What kind of trouble was this going to bring? Feck. I was glad Cillian and Aspen were coming back. I needed them more than ever.
