“I like you in any suit, but this color makes you look powerful,” I said.

“The word you’re looking for issexy,” Indy stage-whispered, and I had to laugh.

“Let’s stay in town tonight. We already had bags packed just in case the roads were flooded. Why bother with it?” Wick’s gaze was brimming with excitement as he stepped closer, and I swore the crotch of his suit pants was looking a little fuller. My own blood heated faster than a penny on the street at high noon in July.

“Maybe the room we stayed in at the Maison St. Loren is free?” I stood and smoothed my hand down his tie. Damn, all the air must’ve been sucked out of the room because I had trouble breathing for a second. Hell, he looked good.

“Yes, yes, I’m ready to lock up, kids. You go have fun now, ya hear?” Indy flashed us a toothy grin and shooed us toward the door. I grabbed my laptop and stuffed it into the bag he’d given me, which I loved. It was red leather that reminded me of an old cowboy hat I’d had as a kid, with shiny bronze buckles.

“Are you sure you want to give this to me?” I asked, holding up the bag.

He nodded like his neck was a spring. “You can’t write about something unless you test it out, and besides, it’s raining.” He shooed me toward the door with more gusto. “Go!”

“Let me grab the car,” Wick said, then planted a kiss on my cheek. “That way your glasses won’t get splotched.”

Indy groaned as Wick rushed outside. “You really struck gold with that one.”

I shrugged. “He likes to treat me well, and I do the same for him when I can. I hate to tell him, though, but my glasses will need help no matter what.”

He smirked. “I bet you do like to treat him well.”

“You know it.”

Indy snickered and leaned against my side for a second, then hustled off with a gasp as if he’d forgotten about something in the back.

The Maserati stopped outside in the street, and I sucked in a deep breath, preparing to sprint toward it. “Thanks again, Indy,” I called.

“Have fun,” he singsonged from the back room, and his laughter chased me out into the rain.

When we arrived at the hotel it was every bit as spectacular as it had been the last time we were here. The raindrops against the lit-up red exterior made the building glisten like a jewel behind glass. I rushed toward the entrance, and Wick went to the trunk to grab the belongings we’d stowed in there this morning, leaving me with only the new bag from Indy. I darted out of the downpour, but everything was fuzzy because water droplets smeared my glasses.

As I approached the check-in desk, someone let out a whistle. “I love that computer bag!” The voice belonged to a man.

“Right? You should visit Indy Yves if you like it,” I said.

Someone handed me a cleaning cloth for my glasses. “Oh, thanks.” I happily wiped away the rain on the lenses, then slid the black frames onto my nose again, grinning at an amused Cooper as he came into view.

“It’s fine. I keep them around for customers. Maybe I’ll do that.” I tried to give the cloth back to him, and he waved his hand at me, so I stuffed it in my pocket.

“Looks like things worked out.” Cooper gave me a wide grin and glanced over my shoulder.

“Yes, they did. Thank you for your help, though. I needed to get out of here that morning.”

Cooper nodded and sent an assessing look at Wick as he came closer with our bags and a pout on his lips. “No judgment here. I know how things can get weird, but good for you two for figuring it out.”

“This is Wick,” I said as he came to a stop at my side. “Wick, this is Cooper.”

“How do you do?” Wick asked.

“Great.” Cooper smiled and shook with him.

“Me too,” Wick said.

Cooper snorted as he pulled back his hand, then coughed to hide his laughter but didn’t do very well.

Wick was being far too formal, but it was cute, and I thought maybe it was because he was a tad jealous. He did that sometimes—got irritated at people who were too close to me—but I mostly ignored it. We trusted each other, and I thought maybe we would both always have a few insecurities, but at the end of the day we were in love, so it would all be fine.

“Can we have that really nice green room we were in last time?” I asked.
