Another tremble slid through him, and he let out a breath. “Crap. The things you do to me.”
The words did wonderful things tome, and my insides buzzed with exhilaration. “Daddy, we’re going to have such a good time today. Kickball, and then I’m taking you to dinner and a movie. After that… I want you to play with me while I’m in my belly.”
“Yes,” he murmured, clearly exhausted from his orgasm. “Hell yes.”
I grinned. I couldn’t wait.

Dare was the best man I’d ever met, I was convinced of it when he relented and took me through the drive-through to get one of my favorite drinks, an iced coffee in a cup that was technically larger than the contents of a human stomach. I’d read that tidbit online once, but it never stopped me from slurping down the entire thing. He always gave me alookwhen I asked for the extra deliciousness, but he would never refuse me, no matter how many times he’d told me it wasn’t good for me. He was the bestest friend—Scratch that.Boyfriend.—a guy like me could have.
So, when we left the suburbs and passed corn growing in neat rows next to the lonesome highway that wound through the countryside, then finally arrived at Lincoln Field, I was buzzing high on sugar. I bounced my way out of Dare’s car while he hit the button to replace the soft top.
“Come on, slowpoke,” I called over my shoulder as I skipped through an opening in a chain-link fence toward metal bleachers where a group of spectators had already gathered. I waved at Nicky’s mom, who I’d met twice at his house, and took the steps two at a time, then plopped at the very top in the middle. My favorite position, even at the movies.
Dare stopped as he finally reached the bottom of the bleachers, and he gave me an amused smile when he noticed where I’d parked my booty. Shaking his head, he walked up the steps and dropped onto the seat beside me.
I shrugged with a grin. “I wanted the best seat in the house.”
He laughed and curled his arm around my shoulders. While I was surprised, I wasn’t ungrateful for the loving touch. I leaned into him and laid my head against his arm, excitement searing through me hotter than the sun. Knowing people could see us like this had my toes curling in my white sneakers. He wasn’t ashamed of me, a knowledge that had me wanting to scream in happiness.
Nicky was over on a bench with Brad and Harley. They were BSing with teammates, and when Nicky finally noticed me, he let out a screech and gave me a big wave as he rushed toward us. His mother tried to talk to him when he reached the bleachers, but he ignored her as he ran up the steps.
“Zayden!” He grasped my wrist and yanked me out of Dare’s arms and to my feet, hauling me into a hug. He was covered in glitter again, and this time it transferred to me while he smothered me with cheek kisses. His dreads tickled my skin as they brushed against me, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at the feeling that came with them.
Nicky spun on Dare. “Hello, Fern.”
Dare cringed away from that name, and I poked Nicky in the side, making him whine.
“You know he hates being called that. Don’t, or we’ll call youNicholas.”
Nicky’s face scrunched up and it was adorable, but everything about him was exactly the same. He wore his pinkMighty Unicornsshirt today with white shorts that were nearly see-through. His black dreads swung free around his glitter dappled cheeks.
“Ugh, you suck,” Nicky whined.
“A lot,” I said, without thinking. I sent Dare an apologetic look, but he shrugged and stood, clearly not ashamed of us because he pulled me out of Nicky’s arms again and wrapped himself around me.
Nicky smirked. “And I know who you suck, too.”
I grinned. “Mm-hmm.”
“Did he get you knocked up?”
Dare’s eyes widened, and I heaved a sigh. I loved Nicky—a lot—but sometimes he didn’t know when it was time to keep his mouth closed. Or if he did, he always got the hint too late. Like now.
He winced. “Uh, yeah, I put my foot in it, didn’t I?”
“Just a little,” I murmured, glancing around. No one was paying attention to us, but it wasn’t strangers I was worried about.
Dare’s eyebrows knitted together in thought, like he hadn’t realized Nicky would know the complete truth about me, and now he didn’t know how he felt about it. I supposed as soon as Nicky left, he’d want to talk about this. I wanted to avoid the conversation until tonight, when I got him all to myself and we weren’t in public.
Brad, Harley, and Kwan joined us. I hadn’t even noticed they’d walked up the steps until they were at Nicky’s side. Harley and Brad wore the same uniform shirt as Nicky, but they didn’t have as much glitter on them, while Kwan was dressed in a simple T-shirt with a Star Trek Vulcan salute on it and shorts.
Brad grinned at me before his gaze slid to Dare. He gave him a once-over, and I would have been slightly jealous if he didn’t have Harley, who was nearly the total opposite of Dare. “Hi.”
Dare nodded and held out his hand, and they shook. “Hey. Name’s Dare.”
“Brad.” His grin widened, and behind him, Harley groaned as though he knew exactly what was coming. “Do you play kickball, Dare?”
