“Thanks,” I grumbled. “Feel like hell today.”
“No, what I meant was, why this?” He tapped the screen, and I stiffened, couldn’t stop myself from giving away how I was feeling.
“You don’t need to know about that to go to Triple X with me tonight.”
“Maybe I do.”
Sighing, I shook my head and tossed my phone onto the counter. “If all I wanted was a quick fuck, I could walk out of my office and along Bar Row any night of the week and get it.”
He grunted but didn’t disagree with me, only glanced down my body in a way that had me massaging some tension out of my belly while I sucked in a few deep breaths and ignored my dick.
“I want more than that. Want the lifestyle play.”
“But not a relationship?”
“No.”
“Why?” He blinked at me, blue eyes all earnest and concerned.
“Fuck, do you always ask this many questions?”
“Cop,” he said with a wink, and I groaned.
“Fuck you. I have a few questions of my own.” I turned and poked at the center of his chest, but that backfired because his muscles were stacked and touching him was oh so nice. “Can you hurt me?”
“What?”
Leaning up I nipped hard at his earlobe, and he let out a breath like air going out of a tire but didn’t move away. “Can you degrade me? Call me a whore? Slap me around?”
“I wouldn’t want to.”
“What do you want to do to me tonight so we can look legit?”
Sir spun and pinned me against the counter, using all of his muscle and weight to hold me in place. My heart hammered as he got in my face. Excitement and dread thrilled through me and had my dick plumping again. “Those other men on that app do all that to you?”
“Not usually all at once, but hope springs eternal.”
Sir rested his forehead against mine and cracked up, a jitter-induced titter that had me relaxing somehow, maybe because I wasn’t alone with my nerves. “You look lush, but tired. We have time. Are your keys in your coat? I’ll send Madden to fetch a bag of your clothes, so you can rest for a few hours.”
“No, I—”
He snagged my chin with an intimidating glare, and I almost choked on the spit in my mouth before I swallowed down the right pipe. “Go back upstairs. Get in bed. Rest yourself. You had a night for the ages.”
My dick surged to full mast, and I fought off the urge to get on my knees for him. He pointed in the direction I knew would take me to the stairs. I eased myself away from him and slunk off to the guest room he’d had me in last night. Sir didn’t give me permission to jerk off, and the urge to give myself some relief, but not being expressly allowed to do it, had me on a delightful edge. I’d never sleep, but as I crawled back under the comforting weight of the blankets, the sensation of being warm and cared for settled on me, too, which was fuckingbad.
I was goddamned doomed if he kept this shit up. We had to finish this bullshit business tonight.

Club Triple X reminded me of seedy strip joints in Miami we’d busted up in more than one takedown for illegal drugs and prostitution. The exterior was an old warehouse-type building with chipped brown bricks surrounded by hooded lighting and a flickering neon pink sign attached to the wall. The lineup outside was long and twisted around the side of the building, with two beefy men in black shirts standing at the front checking IDs before they let members in. I doubted it was to check people’s ages, but rather to make sure their dues were current. On the way here, River had said it was an exclusive club with tough-to-earn memberships.
“Play the part,” River whispered in my ear from where we stood just outside my truck. I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the leather pants that clung to his long legs, or the tight black long-sleeved shirt he wore. I’d seen him attach a red leather shoulder harness to himself in the process of getting dressed and I’d nearly swallowed my tongue. I couldn’t wait to get the shirt off him just to see it again. I could see the outline of the leather under the thin material.
River glared at me and gave me a little shove, reminding me I should walk in front of him. Nodding, I straightened my back and headed toward the rear of the line, but River grabbed my shirt and guided me toward the two bouncers.
They stiffened, but when River stopped beside me, their shoulders relaxed and they smiled.
