The mention of a new family member distracted the twins from their mischievous antics.

My heart stuttered as I approached the bathroom door again. I rapped my knuckles against the wood. “Alaric?” I called.
A beat of silence passed. Those of us outside the door held our collective breath. Then the knob clicked and Alaric threw it open with a deep scowl.
My heart sank like a stone. “What is it?” I asked, already sensing the answer.
Alaric thrust the pregnancy test into the air like he wanted to throw it across the room.
“Negative,” he spat.
The twins and Mylo shared a disappointed look. Then, in hushed tones, Aurum asked, “Did he really pee on that?”
“Aurum,” Mylo murmured, lightly scolding.
“Dude, shut up, he just found out he’s not pregnant,” Saffron hissed, reaching past Mylo to slap his brother’s arm with his free hand.
“Sure, but can’t they just have sex again?” Aurum hiss-whispered back.
I fixed a cold glare on Aurum, ready to scold him not-so-lightly, but Alaric cut me off.
“You’re absolutely right, Aurum,” he announced. “And that’s exactly what I plan to do.”
Aurum’s golden eyes gleamed with shocked pride. “Did he just say I wasright?”
Striding towards me with burning conviction, Alaric grabbed my lapel. “You and me. Right now,” he growled. Turning to the trio, he added, “Unless you want to witness something you can’t unsee, leave now.”
Aurum and Saffron blanched. They shrieked and bolted from the bedroom, dragging poor Mylo with them.
However, I knew their departure was for the best, since Alaric’s threat was genuine. He didn’t hesitate to cup me through my pants. A sudden ripple of pleasure shot down my spine, and a soft gasp escaped my lips.
