Edgar kissed the top of my feet, which made me squeal and laugh.

“Hey, I'm ticklish!” I cried.

My impish mate grinned. “Who knows? One thing is certain, though. I'll be with you every step of the way.”

Deep in my heart, I already knew that.

“I love you, Edgar,” I murmured.

“I love you, Mel.”

Of course, I already knew that, too.

As the nightdawned and Mel grew sleepy, I prepared his nightly routine—for what kind of alpha would I be if I didn't pamper my highly-pregnant omega every single night until he gave birth?

After a healthy and delicious dinner, it was time for his pre-bedtime bath. As a metaphysical entity, I had no need to cleanse myself with water, so the luxurious spa-like bathroom went unused until Mel moved in. But after he did, the whole home underwent a rigorous cleaning. Bert helped, of course, once he found out Mel was pregnant. He insisted that he do the heavy lifting while I scrubbed with chemicals that might harm a human, but were harmless to me.

The bathroom's silver knobs and faucets gleamed in the romantic candlelight. It smelled of roses and sweet incense. As I led Mel inside, he sighed, his eyelashes fluttering delicately as he took in a deep breath.

“I never get tired of this,” he murmured.

Once I helped him into the steaming tub, he let out a sigh of pleasure. The rose petals in the water swirled around him, and steam floated in the air. I laid across the ceramic edge of the tub, waiting to tend to my omega's every whim. But Mel was a humble, modest man. He never asked for much, so I went out of my way to cherish him like he deserved.

“Are your feet still sore?” I asked.

Mel smiled at me. “I've had three foot rubs today, Edgar. I can't ask for more.”

“That wasn't my question.”

He laughed. “No, my feet are not still sore. Better?”

“I suppose... What about your back?”

“I don't think I can get a back rub while laying in the tub.”

“We'll save it for bed, then.”

“Hey. Why don't you join me?” Mel suggested.

I'd never been in the tub because I had no reason to enter, but Mel's offer opened up a world of possibilities.

“Why not?” I said before slipping in beside him. The warm, steamy water made me shiver. “Ooh... That feels strange. But nice. I see why you humans enjoy it.”

Mel looked amused as he cuddled close to me. “You're not gonna melt in the water, are you?”

I held him against my chest. “It hasn't happened yet, so I'll take my chances,” I teased.

After Mel's skin turned wrinkly and the warm water lulled him halfway to sleep, I carefully lifted him out of the tub, dried him off and carried him to bed in the adjacent room.

Mel's face was always adorable, but even more so while he fell asleep. A peaceful expression came over him, and it was sweet the way he couldn't keep his heavy eyelids open. I smiled as I tucked him beneath the covers and planted a kiss on his forehead.

“Goodnight, Mel,” I whispered.

“Night…”
