Why was I having such a strong reaction? Malachi's desire to start a family had nothing to do with me.
But the thought of him having a baby with some random hypothetical person made me want to claw their eyes out.
What the hell, Scotty? Can you have normal reactions to things, please?
I shook my head and reread the line again. There it was, plain as day. Malachi wanted a fated mate and a baby. I didn't know what the former meant, but I sure as hell understood the latter.
My hand drifted to my chest, where my heart was beating wildly. A warm, fuzzy sensation crept throughout my body as I dared to think: I was an omega. Icouldhave a baby with Malachi.
My chest squeezed.
The idea made me unexpectedly happy. Which was weird, considering I'd never really thought about it before. I'd always been up to start a family, but I’d never had a long-term partner I felt truly comfortable with. I certainly didn’t want one with Brayden. So having a baby seemed out of the question. It wasn't like they manifested out of thin air. It takes two to tango and all that.
But Malachi was a vampire. Was it even physically possible for him to impregnate me?
My cock twitched, obviously pleased with the fantasy of it.
"Settle down," I mumbled.
I didn't know, but there was no harm in asking. Malachi was already forthcoming about being a vampire and all it entailed. I doubted he would mind my onslaught of questions.
Enjoying my position on Malachi's soft carpet, I stared up at the ceiling, trying to ignore my aching cock, and waited for him to return.

Malachi
I moweddown everybody in my path in my hurry to find Scotty a juice box. Cursing the fact that my sister and I were both vampires, I wondered where in the hell I was going to find one of those sickeningly sweet beverages. There was no need to check the fridge—I already knew it was empty of anything except my blood substitute. And considering all the vampires here tonight were of the bloodsucking variety, they would be of no help either.
In my haste, I accidentally knocked into a fellow vampire right before he sank his teeth into his prey. Both vampire and human looked disgruntled.
"Hey, Malachi, what's the hurry?" The vampire grumbled.
"Where is Mallory?" I asked.
"Think I saw her down the hall. Now do you mind?" He gestured to the human eagerly baring his neck.
The sight would've made me shudder before, now all I could think of was the mental image of Scotty in the same position. I swallowed the lump in my throat.
I was truly in a bind. I knew Scotty was my fated mate—I felt it in the core of my being. But he ignited my bloodlust. He was the only human in the world to do so. I didn't know how long I could resist him. It was safer to keep away. But how could I, when I felt this love for him?
And then he had to go and offer his blood to me. The absolute lunatic. Why were humans always in such a rush to die?
Miraculously, I spotted my sister at the end of the hall. She was chatting up some fellow vampires. I had no trouble interrupting their conversation. This was far more important than whatever they were talking about. My fated mate needed juice.
"Mallory," I said.
"Oh, hey! Haven't seen you for a bit. What have you been up to?"
"I need your help. Fast."
Mallory and the vampires she'd been talking to exchanged a confused look.
"Did you run out of blood substitute?" she asked.
I ignored the other vampires gagging.
"I need a juice box," I demanded.
