"Th-thanks," I said.

I swear I felt Forest's knowing gaze burning in the back of my head but I didn't turn around to see them smirking at me.

Roshan hadn't let go of my arms. He was still holding them. I didn't pull away. I liked the warmth of his body touching mine.

Zoey yawned loudly. "Daddy, I'm tired..."

I jolted out of my daze. Right. My daughter.

"I'm tired after work, too. Let's go home, sweetie." Looking at Roshan, I said, "Thank you so much for your help today. This job is everything I wanted and I wouldn't have been able to do it without you."

Roshan's expression softened. "You're welcome, Chris. Anytime."

My gaze lingered on his. Neither of us seemed to want to pull away first.

"Daddyyyy," Zoey complained as she tugged on my hand.

I cleared my throat. "Well, um... I'm not scheduled tomorrow, but I am the next day. So I guess we'll see you then?"

Roshan smiled. "Sounds like a plan."

After saying goodbye, Zoey and I headed home.

Except the entire time, all I could think of was thatRoshanfelt like home.

I grumbledas I lounged around in my silk pyjama bottoms. I was bored.

Since Chris wasn't working today, that meant Zoey didn't need a manny. Which meant I was stuck here at home all alone with nothing to do, and no one to share my life with.

And no, I didn't care that I was being a drama-manticore about it.

Chris was the one. My fated mate. Zoey already felt like my daughter, too. I didn't care about holding it back any longer. If I didn't tell Chris, I'd explode like a shaken soda bottle.

I got up and paced the marble halls. They stretched on, empty and lonely except for the looming statues. What I wouldn't give for a few little ones running around causing mayhem...

Yesterday's memory reel kept playing in my head. Holding Chris's arms in my hands, feeling the softness of his skin beneath my fingers, watching his eyes light up and his cheeks turn pink.

I wanted to kiss him. So badly.

But I held back. His co-worker was there and I didn't want our first kiss to be in front of a crowd. I wanted it to be romantic and special and—

I snapped my fingers. "That's it! Ugh, I'm a genius."

I pulled out my phone to make a very important phone call.

A cool drawl came from the other end. "Yes?"

"Ulysses, it's me. I have an important favor to ask you."

He sighed dramatically. "If you're asking for another drop of unicorn blood, I assure you, it isnotgoing to happen."

"What? No. Listen, I found my fated mate. He's a human omega named Chris."

Ulysses gasped. "What the deuce are the odds of both our fated mates being human omegas?"
