He grinned. "There is. Here." He pointed to the same location on his own face, but when I mirrored the action, I didn't feel anything on my skin.
"May I?" he asked.
"S-sure."
Roshan reached out with his thumb and gently wiped a streak of frosting away from my upper lip. My cheeks burned. That tingling sensation from before intensified, shooting an electric jolt between my thighs. If that reaction wasn't bad enough, Roshan casually licked off the frosting from his thumb—the same frosting that had been on my lips a moment ago.
Now I was blushing furiously.
Was he… Flirting with me?
No, he couldn't be. He was a clear professional. I was overthinking it, letting my feelings get in the way of rational thought.
Besides, Roshan was attractive and wealthy. What would he ever want with a broke, chubby single-dad omega?
I pushed the thought out of my mind. That wasn't even important right now. What mattered was if he accepted the position as manny so Zoey had a babysitter and I could keep my dream job.

We hada great time at the picnic, and when it came time to go back home, I found myself disappointed that it was over. I had more fun with Roshan then I'd had with anyone else for a long time.
Finally, I couldn't take it anymore. I had to know his answer.
"So?" I asked hesitantly. "What you think? About being our manny, I mean?"
Roshan beamed like I'd offered him a golden ticket. "I would be honoured, Chris."
"Wait, you would?" I asked in disbelief.
Roshan seemed as eager as I was, if not more. "Yes! Here's my number. Just let me know when and where you need me, and I'll be there."
I gawked at him. He turned down everyone else who ever contacted him about this position—until now. Why me? What was special about us?
"Actually, my first day on the job is two days from now, so…" I forced myself to stop being flustered and get the words out. "Would you like to come over and see my apartment? So I can show you where everything is and stuff," I added quickly so it sounded more work-related and less suggestive.
Roshan looked pleased. "I would love to."

Don'tyou hate it when your employer is your fated mate?
I do.
I was in a sticky situation. Despite my deep sense of relief and happiness, I wasn't exactly out of the woods yet. First of all, Chris was a human. I doubted that he believed fated mates and shifters were real. I didn't want to scare him off by revealing the truth right off the bat. Second, it was a huge human faux-pas to date your employer.
Basically, even when I finally got lucky enough to find my one true love, I was shit out of luck.
When Chris invited me to his apartment, I was ecstatic until I realized it was for work and not a continuation of the date.
It was not a date,I told myself firmly. We're just hanging out and gauging how well we mesh together. For mannying. That's all.
Chris's apartment was within walking distance from the park. We headed over as the sun began to set. Not that it mattered since I was stronger than a human, but I noticed the boxes containing the baked goods were significantly lighter. I smiled thinking about how much Zoey, Chris and I had eaten during the picnic. It felt nice to share my food instead of shovelling it into my maw all by myself. It was something I could get used to.
If—and it's a big if—Chris ever believes me that we're fated mates.
An apartment building loomed ahead on the sidewalk. "Is this the place?" I asked, pointing at it.
