Secondly...Was Quinn more than a friend to me?
Yes. He was. It would be stupid to pretend otherwise at this point. Hell, I'd made out with him only a few hours prior.
I wanted to tell Animus to fuck off and mind his own business, but that aura around him freaked me out. Besides, he was blocking the way to Mistral. I'd rather play along and remain on decent terms with him than piss him off and make things more difficult.
"Yes," I admitted.
"You care about him. Deeply. Is that right?"
"I do."
Animus gave me a long glance. "You are an omega. Correct?"
Cold wind howled across the mountain peak.
"How do you know?" I asked.
Animus's mouth twisted into a bitter smile. "Because alphas do not go out of their way to please omegas. Since you're here to help your more-than-friend, I can only assume you are an omega trying to please an alpha. Am I wrong?"
"No," I ground out.
Animus let out a sigh. "Typical. I shouldn't be surprised by things like this anymore."
This guy was starting to really piss me off. I didn't give a flying fuck that he was a spirit. What gave him the right to act all high and mighty?
The worst part was the slimy guilt that persisted in my stomach. Before I met Quinn, I would've agreed with everything Animus was saying. Alphas didn't do shit for omegas. Omegas only lived to please alphas, in their eyes.
But that wasn't true. Not always. Were Quinn and I the exception to the rule, or was this more common than I thought? Did I just want to confirm my own biases because of my anger?
We aren't even in a relationship,I reminded myself irritably. We kissed once. That was it.
"Why do you care so much about alpha and omega dynamics?" I asked. "Aren't you a spirit or whatever? Do you even understand what we go through?"
A shadow fell across Animus's expression. The wind caused strands of dark hair to fly across his face. He turned around. "It is none of your concern."
Since he couldn't see me, I rolled my eyes. What a load of crap.
"If youreallycare about alphas treating omegas like shit, there's a great place nearby for you to help with your spirit-y powers," I said. "It's called the Society. Finch omegas are locked up their in cages."
I couldn't see his face, but his shoulders stiffened and his claws curled up into fists before relaxing again.
"I see," he said calmly. "Why don't you tell me the whereabouts of this Society?"
I didn't think it would matter, since I doubted he actually gave as much of a shit as he said he did, but I gave him the directions anyway. It was worth it if he got out of my damn way.
"Thank you, little finch," Animus said.
He waved a clawed hand, then his body began to dissolve into mist. I stared as he dissipated into nothing. As shocking as it was, I was glad he was gone. He gave me the creeps.
But more importantly, Mistralwashere. I had to get back to Quinn and tell him the good news.
And this time, I wasn't going to hide the truth from him. He deserved to know everything.
I wasn't going to be a coward anymore.
