To my surprise, Cloud stopped squirming for a second. He blinked big dark eyes--like mine--up at his grandmother. She laughed and petted his fluffy hair.
"Well?" Mother said. "Go ahead and introduce us."
"This little one is Cloud," I told her. She nodded and shook Cloud's tiny hand, which made him giggle.
"And this one is River," Weston finished with a smile, holding up the bigger of the twins. Like Cloud, River was managing to put on his best behaviour. He looked five percent less cranky than usual as his grandmother pet his head, too.
Mother's expression was beyond joyful. "Well done, you two," she said to me and Weston. "You've made a beautiful pair of babies. And what a handsome man you are, Weston! Nishiki chose a fine partner." She winked. "Or should I say, the fates did?"
I smiled at Weston, who returned the gesture with warmth in his gaze.
Those fatesalwayshad to play a part in things, didn't they?
