I heard the door shut behind him. Cecil’s voice cooed softly until the guard dogs were quiet.
What the hell are they doing in here?I thought.
“He’s gotta be in here,” Elian said. “There’s no way Seb would put him with his precious Gracehounds. He probably thinks the alpha has fleas or something.”
“He does not think that,” Cecil argued. “I think they just had a fight.”
Elian snorted. “Obviously, they didn’t. If they fought, that alpha could break Seb in half like a twig.”
I instinctively recoiled at the mental image, then grew frustrated with myself for reacting that way. Ishouldhave wanted to snap the asshole prince in half.
Cecil sighed. “You know what I meant. Not a fight. An argument.”
“They seemed okay at breakfast,” Elian mumbled. “Something must’ve happened.”
Their footsteps echoed closer. The two young omegas finally reached my kennel, then startled, like suddenly being confronted with a wild animal, but they didn’t run off.
“There he is!” Elian said.
Cecil smiled. “We found you!”
I almost stood to greet them, then remembered I towered over both of them. It was probably better to remain sitting so I didn’t intimidate them.
“You shouldn’t be here,” I said slowly. “Your brother will get mad.”
Elian rolled his eyes. “Seb can get over it. He’s being a douche, anyway.”
I held back a smirk at that very accurate assessment.
“Still, you could get into trouble,” I said.
Elian put a hand on his hip and laughed. “You seriously think that? Seb’s not the only prince around here. We’re both princes too, just in case you forgot. Besides, if anything, I think Dad’ll be madder at him since he threw his new pet in a cage when he got bored of it.”
I couldn’t even be upset at the rude way Elian spoke about me. It was true. At least he was willing to admit it.
“Were you guys arguing?” Cecil asked.
I sighed, trying to smooth my emotions while I spoke to the young princes. “You could say that.”
“About what?”
My brain felt like static. I couldn’t even remember what started the whole debacle. We’d kissed and then Sebastian lost his mind, demanding I stop lying to him when I was being truthfully honest. But I couldn’t tell Sebastian’s younger brothers about all that.
“I don’t know,” I admitted weakly.
“You must’ve pissed him off somehow,” Elian said, gesturing with a hand like he was casually discussing the weather. “I mean, it’s notthathard to make him angry, but he usually has a reason for it. Trust me, I’m pretty good at riling him up.”
I didn’t want to tell them the whole story, but I doubted they’d stop prodding until they got some kind of answer.
“I guess… Our relationship was moving too fast, and I think it scared him,” I said quietly.
Elian and Cecil exchanged a glance.
“You mean, you really like each other?” Cecil asked with big doe eyes.
I realized what I’d just told Sebastian’s brothers and blushed. Was that too much info for them to have? Maybe I should’ve lied instead.
Elian chortled. “Makes sense. Seb’s never been in a relationship so when it got too real, he flaked out.”
